Thread: Wolverine

  1. Nice to see this is finally being made, I remember hearing about an article that said a wolverine movie was slated after the first batman film. Clearly that panned out, anyway this should be good. I liked all the other X flics so I have high hopes for this. If this does well you can pretty much count on a mags spin off, hey maybe they could do a riff on the house of M story line.

  2. A house of M storyline is impossible for the same reason "The Ultimates" is.

I would like to see a wolvie movie that begins with his breakout of the weapon x facility and just runs from that point on. How did he survive? Who did he kill? Who did that to him etc, etc...

  3. The movie should be Wolverine vs. Thanos/w The Infinity Gauntlet.

He kinda just lived in the wilderness for a while, in a savage, feral state. Eventually he joined up with Department H and was trained by them for the Canadian government, then skipped out on them for the X-Men. Might make for an interesting movie.

I still would like to see some shit in Japan, however.

BTW, seems the movie strays from the comic in that the claws were given to Wolvie as opposed to them being a part of his mutation. After all, Stryker told Logan in X2 that he gave him the claws. Honestly, I thought the bone claws were kinda lame, anyway, but that's just me. I know some of you guys dig 'em.

  4. I'm pretty sure that the original line in the comics was that he got the claws fron the Weapon X project, but that was retconned for convenience when they took out his adamantium but still wanted him to have claws.

A similar story goes for the Weapon X = Weapon 10 thing. I might be able to get on board with that if they had actually put a decent effort into revealing the other Weapon projects, but they most certainly did not, it's pretty much all a bunch of no-name throwaway characters in the Marvel U that they wanted to retcon an undeserved sense of importance into.

  5. I hate retconning.

    Depends on the approach.

They would most likely have to refer to her in a flashback and flesh her out here and then parlay why he couldn't remember her due to memory implants since he actually didn't remember Weapon X until Jean went through his head. Plus there's the whole Stryker involvement from X2. I agree with Dolemite that the story would work in a Japan but also using various touch points in Wolverine's history such as Department H, Sabertooth, Silver Samurai and so on. Personally the best two modern solo Wolverine stories have been Warren Ellis's Not Dead Yet and Steve Skroce's Blood Debt.

Not Dead Yet is about bone claw Wolverine not having that adamantium skeleton edge and having to rely more on his wits against a deranged hit man known as McLeish. They have a really interesting relationship and dynamic until you see certain elements of the story pan out and see how much of a scumbag McLeish really is. It takes place mostly in both Hong Kong The good thing about Wolverine's bone claws in this story is that his healing factor works much better, plus he gets torn up by adamantium bullets and gets pinned in between by two cars so he has to crawl out of the wreck with his battered and bloody legs until they heal.

Blood Debt takes place in Japan where Wolverine is caught in between between families in a blood fued which also stars Silver Samurai and Yukio but the rest of the villains are brand new and are really ruthless and cool. Wolverine has his adamantium back in this story and also goes through a ton of shit. The coolest thing he did was when he plowed through like 100 guys just slicing and dicing.

They have a wealth of stuff to work with and make this movie a mix of spy thriller, action, and horror but I'm keeping my expectations really low for this one as I think Marvel will utilize the potential of great stuff already laid down.

  7. Some of my favorite Wolvies were in the first few years back in the mid eightees. Remember the series where he teams up with The Hulk as partners and they just go ape shit on all of the villians? I think the best way to present a first Wolverine movie would definitely be a flashback type premise, where they can go into detail on the Weapon X project, but still show parts of the Japan stories, maybe in the present tense.

  8. No flashback gimmicks, just play the part at the point it happened.

I'm not talking an exact re-telling or anything just the basic idea of scarlet which going nuts yadda yadda.

  10. Who cares about the Scarlet Witch. That bitch fucked a robot.
