    As horrendously bad as the X3 script was, at least the action in that was enjoyable.

    Not the case with Wolverine unfortunately, even the action was shit. Except for the Wolverine/Blob fight which was for laughs. The rest were jokes, but not the funny type.

    This movie has no redeeming qualities whatsoever other than someone getting hot and bothered over (1) Hugh Jackman; or (2) Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Neither apply for me.

    It's a step above Daredevil, but that's pretty much it. Ang Lee's Hulk was better than this.

  6. Meh, it was alright.....Could have been way better. I hated Blob's comedy, it just made things so cheesy and Gambit wasn't in it nearly enough.

  7. I thought it was pretty decent for what it was so it wasn't a train wreck by any means. There's plenty of stuff to like with some of the characters and Wolverine himself and the action was nice.

    That being said, it definitely has a lot of pacing problems and it fails to live up to its true potential. For example, the opening Origins scene was pretty close to the book in look but the revelation of Thomas Logan being James's father just isn't all that effective if we never see anything leading up to that moment. The movie would have benefited greatly from using more of the Origins stuff to lead up to that part.

    I also found it extremely strange that Wolverine did practically nothing in the first Team X mission (merely observing) and just got up and left without anyone stopping him. I didn't have that big of a problem with Victor/Logan being brothers but the sibling rivalry between them should have been a lot more aggressive and less of a team up as the movie went on so Sabertooth should have made Wolverine's life far more miserable. While the illusion of Sabertooth killing Silverfox is more or less correct and true to the comics, I think Sabertooth should have killed her off towards the end which would at least justify why Wolverine would have a major problem with him. I'm not sure why Wolverine would just walk off after the Silverfox revelation by Stryker, that seemed very off and out of character since he all the sudden stops caring about revenge and only returns back to the facility when Silverfox screams.

    The other mutant characters were cool but they weren't really necessary to the plot as there are better ways to integrate mutant cameos. The Silverfox/Emma connection seemed unnecessarily forced as well but I noticed that we saw a young Cyclops/Emma team up which wasn't really true to the comics in any sense but was an interesting to see nonetheless. Another big problem with the movie is that in order for the violence to be fully realized it needed to embrace an R rating so a scene like the Weapon X one, while well done, is still way too tame. There were also far too many times where it took me out of the movie when I saw perfectly clean, bloodless claws or swords whenever someone was stabbed or skin was pierced.

    Oh and Cyclops generating heat from his blasts, as cool as it looks as an after effect, is incorrect and doesn't jive at all with the movies or the comics. It's equally dumb to have Wolverine deflect the blast with his claws although seeing the adamantium heated up looked kind of cool but even with that it shouldn't be susceptible to heat.

    The "Ma and Pa Kent" stuff was just....strange. It worked to a degree, especially when Agent Zero kills them off but a younger Mac and Heather Hudson would have been better in the long run since that seeds future characters and Logan has another redhead to pine for without having to take the Rose angle from Origin. What struck me especially bad about that part of the film were the special effects on Wolverine's claws in the bathroom. Why they used CG claws instead of practical ones (outside of the initial snikt) is just...baffling, it looked downright amateurish and had me scratching my head as to why they decided to go ahead with that effects shot.

    As far as Deadpool goes, I thought the idea of making him Weapon 11 was really lame and I hated what they did with him at first. But I have to admit, after I saw him in action he actually had a pretty reasonable function and looked pretty scary. The thing is that a spin-off Deadpool movie would have to properly build off of the ending of this movie so that his Weapon 11 stint is shown as a major fall from grace to build himself up again. But since it would fall under FOX, I don't want them to go anywhere near it.

    Liev Schreiber did a much better job than I expected so I wanted to see more of him, the rest of the Weapon X team was pretty cool, especially Blob and normal Deadpool and I liked how they used their powers despite the first mission being a big waste of a set piece when it came to effectively adding to the story. Stryker was good throughout the film and leads into the character we saw in X2, I just wished he looked more like Brian Cox (is putting glasses on him all that hard?).

    I actually liked Taylor's Gambit but his role in the film was rather strange, I was especially surprised to see how involved he was towards the end. The only other problem I had with him was that his Cajun accent was almost totally gone from the plane scene onwards.

    Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10

    Needed: An R rating, better editing, more organic use of characters and interaction, more story

    Needed less: Mutant cameos, dodgy CG, wirework, inconsistencies

    Question: what was the point for Wolvie to jump off Gambit's plane, when the frigging island had a bridge, or Wolverin could easily swim over it (oh I get it, movie needed more shitty GC action scenes, as Wolvie body skipped to the island !). Also, where did Gambit's plane go anyway, when he suddenly showed up in the air to blow up the piece of falling stone.

    Honestly Despair, I have no idea to all of the above.

    I'll have to watch it again to get a better recollection of the stuff you're referring to. There were a lot of inconsistencies that didn't make any sense which almost always comes with the territory with brainless blockbuster action movies so it's not like there isn't a precedent for that type of stuff.

    But like I said, the movie really isn't as horrible as people make it out to be but at the same time it fails to be a good/great Wolverine movie due to several obvious factors (unimaginative story and script writing, underdeveloped characters, severe logic flaws and continuity).

    Some of which, no matter what, will keep undermining its potential sequels and spin offs such as the X-franchise pretty much being stuck in studio hel....I mean FOX and an ever elusive R-Rating.

  10. What a weird movie. It was just kinda...there. I think I enjoyed it more than X3 but this should have been a lot better.
