Thread: Heroes on NBC

  1. Yeah, I enjoyed it too. I think possibly the comparisons to Lost could be that all the characters lives intersect at some point and they don't know it at the time (we just see it in the first ep, unlike Lost which is scattered thru multiple shows) and the "what's going on?" ora(sp?). The thing that I'm questioning already is, what's up w/the "angst" teen's parents? I'm guessing they are the "bad guys".

  2. I got the impression she's adopted "I think I'm old enough to know who my real parents are" and it was probably on purpose by that evil guy. Maybe he killed her real parents. (BTW, that's the girl that did the voice for the main chick in Kingdom Hearts and KHII)

I am excited to see the true emergence of the villain, and a CBR interview with Tim Kring last week said that would happen in episode 2. I thought the stuff with Hiro was great, and that he will add a ton to the show. On the other hand, I thought the Indian guy was too much of an exposition device, and not very likeable.

The foundation is there, and clearly the advertising budget is there, so let's hope they knock this one up a notch in the coming weeks.

Does anyone know when the online comics (mentioned in post #17) debut?

  3. I agree with everything Andrew said. I rolled my eyes so many times during the pilot... But the premise has potential.

One thing that would have been nice is if they had broken the screen up into panels and used a lot more dramatic angles and whatnot. All that cliche bullshit would play just fine in a comic book universe but they would need to really reinforce that that world is superreal instead of just our normal world. But they didn't.

The script was pretty laughably horrendous for the most part, but the story is interesting. The only two of the hero crew I actually gave a crap about was the cheerleader with self healing and the Japanese guy.

What exactly was the whore-mom's special power? That she could see her conscience in her reflection and that she could kill people?

That flying scene with the brothers at the end was so clumsily shot and played I was a little embarassed for the show.

The Indian guy needs to keep his Jr. High School Philosophy to himself because his voice drove me nuts, as though it weren't bad enough that the lines he was forced to read were juvenile, campy and retarded.

I'll check it out again but my hopes aren't too high. It's no Smallville... take that however you will.

  4. Korly and anyone else its up.

After watching the episode, you go to NBC.com ->Heroes TV show ->Graphic Novel. It takes place wither during the episode(aka running concurrently, or takes place right after) just like what they all said.

  5. I disagree with everything Andrew said. I'm not going to explain myself in any way, but clearly you all are retarded.

No, seriously. I thought it was a well done premiere, and the show has lots of potential. Sure, it does have its fair share of cliches (so does lost and every other show on tv - thats what television is) but it set them up in a really interesting way and it really depends on how they deal with these "cliches" down the line that will determine how good this show really is. If they use the cliches to their advantage this could turn out to be a really fun show.

  6. I actually agree with Mman. I mean the feeling about Blade was the same, but as the show moved on it improved. Two things this show has going for it.

    1: No Goyer
    2: Jeph Loeb

FTW. This show will be awesome. And my hopes are set very low. Considering the show its competing with is RAW. 'Nuff said. I didn't even watch all of it. Since the Phillies were on, MNF and the NO's thing, and part of Raw. Luckily I DVR'd it. I will be watching it.

  7. <scratches Mman and Advocate off Christmas list>

  8. The first comic is drawn by none other than Michael Turner, and gives some insight into the way the Indian Guys father died.

    Hiro has a blog.http://blog.nbc.com/hiro_blog/

And you can read thoughts from Tim Kring (the ones that went online after the premiere) here.

    From the Tim Kring comments:

Did you miss the show? The premiere will be rebroadcast tonight at 8pm (7 central!) on NBC or you can watch it right now, on the official website.

And there is a message board set up to interact with the shows creators here.

The debut of a non cliché superhero show.

Yes it would have. I specifically quoted the "I JUST WANTED TO FEEL ALIVE!" cliché because it's been on the modern day television writers orgasm agenda since Buffy made it popular. In fact, the worst season of Buffy (S6) was all about this. The best part about the whole show was the swerve ending where the politician shark flew and saved his brother instead of the younger one flying.

Once this show starts developing its antagonists it'll improve 10 fold. The girls father being the investigator and scientist on mutants already improved the show. Unfortunetly that didn't happen until the last 30 seconds, which is why I mentioned the cliffhangers (plural) really saving this show from being written off.

I'm not going to give respect or time to a show just because it's about superheroes. It's either good and worth watching or its not.

The problem here is that Lost exists on the air, successfully, right now. It gets its drama right in a sci-fi setting, even if it does seem adrift technically.
