As far as jobs go, I'm with Yoshi on this one. Once people start to get together and fight for what they want, companies will pick up and run. This trend is fashionable to many large companies (Dell comes to mind on this one) and our President isn't doing anything about it. He actually thinks it's a good idea.
Congress, Senate, and the Presidency need a serious overhaul. Companies having deep ties with politicians does no one any good. Instead of reflecting what the many need they will go with the few for deeper pockets. If we put in people who are willing to tariff these comapnies (boycott if necessary), fight for national healthcare, updating of social security, and curb the rising cost of living then this country would be back to it's former glory.

Razor, you're a fucking idiot for the same reasons I posted like four posts up. Every US company would go out of business if we made them choose between crazy benefits and high tarriffs. That wouldn't result in a higher standard of living for anyone but the Chinese.
Yes, well, the whole point then is to stop touting the corporate line and look at the facts. Companies can still be successful while giving their employees health care and a good salary. All this cost-cutting and benefit-slashing over the past few decades is for one thing and one thing only: to make the people at the top wealthier.Originally Posted by Yoshi
And the government has let it happen, even taking part in the propaganda about how "downsizing" and "outsourcing" are "good for the economy". It's a fucking joke.
What exact thing? My girlfriends mom does that exact thing.
I don't think downsizing is a bad idea. It just needs to be done all the way from top to bottom. If you reduce 20% of your workers, then you can reduce 20% of your execs.

These comapnies won't go bankrupt so easily even if regulations are placed upon them. I'm sure they can afford it.
They can. They just couldnt be able to afford the insane compensation packages executives get, something like 500 times what the average joe makes at the company. The CEO of Pfizer makes like $22 million a year with all his compensation, that can buy a lot of health care, or a lot of pension.Originally Posted by Razor Ramon
The problem is that we have this idea in our heads that companies need to fuck us in the ass to survive. It's just not true.
You just don't get it. US companies compete with European and Asian companies, not just other US companies. Our salaries are already higher than anywhere else, so if more regulations are put on them, that only benefits the foreign companies. Again, standards of living don't improve when there are less companies with less jobs.
