Round limit makes the game go faster and force you to use better tactics. And Rufus is awesome, give him mobility upgrade asap.
If the scooby doo wanna be you're talking about is Rufus, you need to start using him immediately. He becomes a monster later in the game.

I gave him Mobility +2 and the best weapons and armor. He was tearing it up, he was as powerful as the characters post-transformation. La Hire kinda sucks actually. As for the round limit, twice I have had those "get to the glowing yellow squares to escape" objectives, and was down to the last character, last turn and I was ONE FUCKING SQUARE SHORT when I tried to move her. Twenty minutes wasted. I wanted to lob my PSP into the wall. Also, The mission where you have to get to the two boats in the animal slum, I got almost all my guys to the first boat then after round ten IT LEFT! I had two guys left to get to the other boat on the other side of the map but I had been bypassing the enemies to get to the first one. Needless to say I failed that mission. I liked this game a lot but it made me so pissed off sometimes.

Animegirl's spoiler part pissed me off as well. In fact, I'm going to un-spoiler tag it to save anyone fortunate enough to read this prior to playing that stage some time and possibly a PSP.
There is a stage with two boats. Don't bother meticulously leveling your characters or stealing shit in this stage; the boats leave almost without warning. Just get your party out of there as soon as you can.
That and the inability to skip the ridiculous frog-chewing-the-gems-during-synthesis animation are my only major complaints with JD'C, though.

Well I'm a bit overleveled because I've been doing all the free stages. I killed all the guys on that level, got all the item points, and still had my guys on the boats by turn 10.

Also my party level imbalance is hilarious. Thanks to killing dragons and Tiamet, my Gilles is now nearing level 70, while the rest of my party is still in their early to mid 50s.
Gilles is my one man killing force now, I can just have him transform and take out half the map.

When I beat the game, Jeanne was really high lvl (60+), and Rufus and Jean was in mid 50s while everyone are in high 40s. Those 3 can take out anything but the last boss.
Jean over Gilles? That's insanity.
