Almost winning a game means nothing. The Titans and Jets almost beat the Colts too, are they contenders as well? The question isn't who NE almost beat, it's who have they actually beat. A 4-4 Bengals team that lost to the Bucs? A 4-4 Vikes squad that just got beat by the Niners? And yet if Faulk doesn't drop two consecutive drive-killing passes at the end they still win that game. I didn't see what you saw - I saw Peyton Manning get harassed and put on his ass repeatedly for the first time in years, and I saw Tom Brady play one of his worst games ever (how many passes did he try and force into triple coverage?) and his team still took it down to the wire. There's no question in my mind NE is a contender; especialy if Brady shows up sober next time.
Overrated.
Edit:
Didn't watch the playoffs last year? Pittsburgh did the same thing to him.

He definitely got sacked a lot, regardless these two teams have such amazing offensive lines.
Oh come on. They're not a 2-6 team, that was the second game they've lost all year. The only teams to beat them are the two best teams in the AFC, arguably the league, and even with Brady playing like garbage they were within a single score of knocking off an unbeaten team.
Unlike the Titans and Jets, the Patriots have been doing it all year. Don't believe in them if you don't want to, but that defence is damn good, Maroney and Dillon are a heck of a one-two punch at RB, they have the best head coach in football and Brady's going to be in the hall of fame one day.
I'm not picking them to go the distance, but they're definitely for real.
That's an excellent point. The last time a team could do that to Manning, they won the Superbowl.Didn't watch the playoffs last year? Pittsburgh did the same thing to him.

Front seven is excellent, secondary is pretty bad of Harrison who is a SS and usually not responsible for coverage.
I'm not saying they suck or anything, they are a good team (I already said fifth best in the AFC) but "almost winning" means nothing and they have not beaten any good teams. A few days ago people were talking like they were garunteed another Superbowl win. That is why they are overrated.
I still credit the officiating crew with the victory. That's an excellent point. The last time a team could do that to Manning, they won the Superbowl.
heh, i still rank the Pittsburgh-Indy divisional game as one of the best games I've ever seen in mine life (yes mine life). Say what you will about roflburger now, and there's plenty to say, but that game saving tackle deserves to go down in history.
whoops apparently is has:

Brady and company look good against average defenses. Look at the numbers against Denver and you'll see that the Patriots offense isn't all that great. Maroney and Dillion were totally shut down against Denver, with a total of 34 yards rushing between them.
And the defense? Junior Seau had more tackes than anybody on the team in that game.

New England's offense isn't good enough to beat the likes of Baltimore or San Diego. Brady's good, but he's not superman.

That wiki entry reminded me of this.
Station knows, but for the rest of you:
Like to opposite of mentioning Mazerowski in Pittsburgh, bringing this game up with draw ire from many, even from people who profess to not care about football in the slightest. Like the Kennedy Assassination or 9/11, everyone in Houston remembers where they were at when this happened. I think this ranks slightly behind the Hurricane of 1900 as far a disasters in the region go.
I was at my friend Joey's house, I had been spending the night there watching Jean Claude Van Damme movies and walked home during half-time only to return to a train-wreck of a game. I tore up all of my Houston Oiler cards and cried.
Was a bad day.
