Thread: Is the Wii really going to be what we expect?

  1. Far Cry Instincts came pretty close, but I agree, the Xbox was phased out before its hardware was maxed out.

Also, real developers will be making these, not the no names on XBLA.
Every Extend, Cho Ren Sha, Cave Story, etc.

As for "real" developers making "16-bit" games, LOL Ill believe it when I see it.

I do expect the quality of XBLA games to go up, though, I think its obvious M$ (ROFL) didnt expect the success they had and are scrambling to catch up.

Perhaps there's something we can all agree on: the Wii will occupy the same place in consoles that the DS occupies in handhelds. Whether the DS's marketshare and library "sucks" or "rocks" is a matter of opinion.

I'm really agree with this. There will be a number of games (sadless, probably less than more) that are just awesome that utilize the controller. Most game for the system with probably be controlled in the standard d-pad fashion with gimmicky usage or have very basic/minimal usage of the motion function like a number of DS games do with the touch screen (ie: NSMB, Castlevania, Tony Hawk).

The Wii isn't going to be for everyone, the same as the DS isn't for everyone. It's exactly as marketed -not a replacement for the 360 or PS3, but a suplimental or alternative experience.

I bought this from Target on Clearence for $7 about a year ago:

Honestly, it its pretty damn cool. Graphics and sound are horrid, but the gameplay is fun. I would consider this a bargin basement version of what the Wii can offer, and that is what entrieges be about the Wii. Very few new enjoyable experiences have come along over the last 10 years from conventional games. I personally am kinda getting board with gaming, but games like Warioware Twisted and Trama Center have given me hope. Don't get me wrong I have been very satisfied with games like SoTC and more convential titles like RE4 and Oblivion, but simply want something new.

I know my opinions are not shared by everyone here, but I'm just about kicking ass and playing fun games.

Halo 2 did. The texture "popping" is friggin' annoying.

The marginal rate of refinement on all features is going to be much smaller than that of the previous generation.

    I don't believe that.

  9. I also believe the Wii may be too gimmicky and not get much extended use. But we shall see.

    IAWTP.

I think it's like PCs, where everybody was eager for the newest fastest PC until about five years ago when they reached "plenty powerful," and most people only upgrade now when they have to. The newer PCs are better and faster at running the OS, Office and other common programs, but difference isn't huge.
