I wanted to go to that Skychurch thing if just to see him with one Marshall head and one Fender head. BLASPHEMY AT THE SKYCHURCH!!! Dan is going to hell.

I have a Ceriatone Liverpull which is a Trainwreck clone. It is the most awesomest thing. Really. It's over at Big Sound so if you guys end up working with Studio Steve you can mess around with it. Plus I'm sort of dying to open it up and see what it looks like in there.

  2. I always pictured him as more of a fender guy (of the two I think fender generally comes across fatter, and he's got a fat sound) but it sure sounded good. It's looking like we're probably going to cut a demo with steve and he mentioned that we had access to your amps (thanks btw), but we're all broke so it's going to be a couple months.

I've never heard of a trainwreck, what is that?

  3. A really really epic boutique amp maker who is now dead. This guy in this video is total clownshoes but I imagine everybody in this thread will find something to be impressed with tonewise (if even for one brief second) within these six weird minutes.

A real Express like that is probably about $25K minimum and a Liverpool is a bit less. Ceriatone's Liverpull cost me $800. It's unreal too.

Hey douchebag... why don't you wear your guitar a little higher!

oh, the 1485 is much worse. Lots more caps, a lot less space. Its like the Edsel of tube heads. Its so ugly, its wonderful.

And you say definitely do it because it's better for the health of the amp. I am saying that if I bought an amp that didn't work how I wanted it to and when I opened it up it looked like that inside, I'd sell it. Or use it for a boat anchor or something. Maybe the 1485 is different and maybe that pic I posted is really shitty but it doesn't look there's even terminals in there. It looks like somebody grabbed a fistful of caps and resistors and threw it all in there and then walked away thinking "Fuck, I hope that works".
since this is becoming a hot topic, I'll put it to bed before things go south.

It isn't so much a matter of price. Technically I could probably recap it for like $50-$100 IF I used new caps.

BUT I want to keep this amp as original as possible. I want to do this for two reasons. One, the more original it is, the more it is worth. Two, I need it to sound like it did when released 45 years ago, as much as possible. I plan on doing something with the amp that requires this (when you see it, you will shit bricks). So a complete recap job with new style parts is out of the question. And if I recap it with reproduction parts, without seeing which ones are really bad and which ones are not, I will waste a lot of money (new oil and wax caps are X-spensive!)

That is why I believe it would be wiser to go through the amp and check it out and replace ONLY that which must be replaced.

  6. I had never bothered to look at Trainwrecks before, but I shat my pants at 3:40. Wish he knew some punk

If that's a real '59 Burst as he claims what's he doing playing it though? Trade it for a historic reissue and a decent sized house I say.

    hot topic
Not at all. Good reasons and it makes sense to only replace what's broken, cap+cord jobs shouldn't affect resale value though. I'm gonna look into fixing mine again, seems like replacement parts are way more available than they were 10 or so years ago.

  7. So I've got hat Tonefancier pedal dialed now and it is really impressive. The warm setting actually adds low end. That's pretty well unheard in the realm of basic fuzz pedals.

  8. I recorded a song for my friend that's gonna' do the drums and uploaded it for him. When I called him later he was DL'ing it and his first comment was "That's guitar?!". "It sounds like distorted bass!"

    Awesome.
    Boo, Hiss.

  9. I usually get the reverse:

"That's bass? Sounds like distorted guitar."

But that's just 'cause I use the one bass I have for everything (low and high voices), and have a versatile enough effects machine to hide or push the "bassiness" to whatever it needs to be.

  10. I can get some fucking killer distorted sounds from my bass, but usually its at a loss of either low end or attack. As a result I've been writing music for a band with 2 bass players, guitar and drums.

Oooh, more info? the only fuzz pedal that adds low end that i've actually heard is the older Marshall Guv'nors.

Razor: You should try out a distortion pedal, chances are you will get a better sounding distortion than your amps (assuming you have a solid state amp with a distortion switch).
