Cool choice.
Went through a list of candidates for my choice, here were a few I considered (in case anyone wants to catch them or add as a later Club entry). However, I felt that all of these the majority TNL Movie Club had probably already seen:
Graveyard of Fireflies
Kentucky Fried Movie
Mulholland Drive
Menace II Society
Seven Samurai
Happiness
I wanted to pick something quality that probably flew under most peoples radar and I narrowed it down to 2 choices:
Style Wars
Primer
Style Wars is more of a Documentary than movie, it's based on 80's underground Graffiti/Hip Hop/Breakin communities. Since its a Documentary I scratched it, but would still be excellent to check out if you get the chance. It actually aired originally on PBS. It was once out of print, but got a reprint within the past 2 years, so it shouldnt be that hard to track down.

It does look like netflix carries it: http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?...=501489124_0_0
For the movie club official entry, Primer it is:

Quick Synopsis:
PRIMER is set in the industrial park/suburban tract-home fringes of an unnamed contemporary city where two young engineers, Abe and Aaron, are members of a small group of men who work by day for a large corporation while conducting extracurricular experiments on their own time in a garage. While tweaking their current project, a device that reduces the apparent mass of any object placed inside it by blocking gravitational pull, they accidentally discover that it has some highly unexpected capabilities--ones that could enable them to do and to have seemingly anything they want. Taking advantage of this unique opportunity is the first challenge they face. Dealing with the consequences is the next.
User Review from IMDB with a little more info including the budget:
Never before have I felt so compelled to re-watch a movie within 48 hours of initial viewing. This mindf$%# of a movie demands exactly that. If you are up for a challenge, I recommend you view this film... research it a little (not too much)... watch it again, and then go read the forums at primermovie.com - but importantly, do not go there before watching it at least twice in my opinion. It's amazing what can be done with only $7,000 - in comparison to what others do with $200,000,000. This is science-fiction at its purest and I really hope it gets a wider release and receives the attention it deserves. Contagiously brilliant, and as close to perfect as a film of it's ilk can get. 10/10
This is a thinking movie similar to PI or Memento, but with a much different theme. It does get a little slow at points, but as long as you can bear it, you are in for a real mind-bender.
The quality of the film is not that great due to the budget, so dont expect and crazy special effects or HD. The plot and the sequence of events are the real meat of the film.
This guy who made the film is actually local here and got some great attention in Dallas (The creator actually plays the key role in the film and I believe the other parts are played by his friends/relatives), but I dont think many other places in the country were well marketed, so many people missed this gem.
So please discuss after viewing, and hope you enjoy the pick.

Cool choice.
Hey I didnt know you were one of theTNL Dallas boys D_N_G. Yeah I remeber when Primer came out alolt of people round here were all about it. I just rented and watched it recently too good pick.
GREAT FUCKING CHOICE!
This was going to be the movie I would have posted when my turn came up. I hope people actually go out and rent this thing, this was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
A friend of mine burned this for me a couple months ago. It is fantastic. what they did on such a small budget. A little creepy nonetheless.
I just went back in time and changed my original movie choice from Muppets in Space to Primer
I saw this when it originally came out on DVD. It was one of those movies where you can't say exactly why, but you're pretty sure you just saw something awesome (in the original term - not like "Dude these hotdog's are awesome!").
I had originally wanted to join the movie club just to post this movie... but i didn't join.
Regardless, this is a fantastic movie despite only being like 75 mins long. It takes a few watchings to figure out what's going on in every scene.
I was with it up to the water fountain scene. I got lost after that. It's really easy to lose track of what's happening right after that point. A big event happens (with that chicks father I think it was) setting off the big problem of the movie, but I'm not sure when that happened in the time line of the movie. Once they use the box the movie takes place through what? 4 or 5 real time days?
Crazy movie though, a real achievement for just a 7 grand budget (the main characters are really good actors).
