If there's going to be a southern get together it's going to be in a civilized state like Tennessee, Georgia, or the Carolinas. No one is dumb enough to go to Mississippi that doesn't already live there.

Well, they're both great and you can easily walk to Gatlinburg from Pigeon Forge. Really though, what you do is get a hotel in Pigeon Forge and then drive over to Gatlinburg and enjoy the strip (Mall in the Mountain, Ripley's Museum, etc.).
