Well it can't be a period that me and gozen are in school. If we aren't there is no real point in having it down here.
Early Spring? Not everyone is off around Christmas anyways![]()
I took all your French Toast.

heh.
But Yoshi, all school work is the same. How dare you imply that one of us has it easier.
(I think he is in graduate school, so school is probably hard for him these days. Or at least time consuming.)

Yea christmas time is one of the busiest times for me at work.
You guys are a bunch of schmucks. TNL > *
I too would like in on this get together.
Well I went to it. And it was awesome, it's own ways.
I will admit that it is kind of hard going from rock and metal to listening to 5+ hours of blues. Blues repeats itself a lot more than those other two types of music.
First group was good. I think they were from Alabama. They were called "Topper Price and the upsetters" if you want to look them up. Nice solid blues bland. If they play locally to you, they would be good to see.
Second group was just two dudes. One played harmonic and the toher sung, played guitar and drums. It was pretty awesome. Not only did he play guitar, he played a guitar made of a two broomsticks and an old cigar box. He got some really good tones out of it. I picked up his cd later and even got him to sign it.
Next up was Big George Brock & The Houserockers. Sweet god was this man the real deal. He started with tail Dragger. He came walking up from the back in a white suit, big white hat, a white cape, and a big long black hair tail, draggen behind him. In the middle of his set, the guitar players of all guitar players came in, Hubert Sumlin. For those not in the know, sumlin was Howlin Wolf's guitarist for 25 years, and did some work for Muddy Waters. He is sited as one of the biggest influences to Eric, Page, Keith Richards, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He played a bright orange tele and got all sorts of tones out of it. At some point they played "spoonful" and it was just awesome. Sumlin and Big George got in the floor playing and singing together.
Oh yeah, and Blind Mississippi Morris played the harmonica for them. You probably don't know him but he is considered to be one of the ten best harmonica players in the world right now. He can sing like a SOB too.
I got Big George's CD and got him to sign it and shook his massive hand.
About this time my little sis who went with me created a black hole in her puckered ass and wanted to leave. =/ women. She was "tired" and "bored."
I ignored her and told her she was being childish and selfish. I paid to see a show, and damn it I was going to see the entire show. Shit, how many times do you get to see Hubert Sumlin play with two bands?
After Sumlin's second band Slick Ballinger came on, the last act of the night. God damn can that boy sing. It was epic. He could give a whole bunch of metal singers a run for their money.
his myspace

doesn't do him justice
We left after his first song as my little sister was becoming a major ass, and I figure I'll have another chance to see Slick before I die.
The Bad: Old white people.
Jesus. Jesus fucking Christ. There is very little in this world sadder than a bunch of 50+ soccer moms and their husbands half drunk and trying to dance to blues greats. It was kind of cute at first, but these bands deserved better than these guys wiggling around like retards. They deserved screaming, and yelling, and fucking hell yeahs. They got drunk white wiggling. ugh
To make matters worse I had a group of these guys behind me. Two of the wives talked through the first two hours of the show. It got so bad I had to turn around and tell them to stop. I tried to be nice and polite. I told them that this was my little sisters first blues fest, and it was hard for her to hear over all the talking. They told me she should go set up front. yeah.
The drunk bitches apologized later that night.
We really should ban women that are over 50 from drinking. Booze is for men and women that are actually young enough for said men to want to fuck them, hence the booze.
Anyway, I'm glad I got to see Mr. Sumlin play. I really hope some day I can meet him and shake his hand. Seeing him play live is like seeing ground zero for a lot of 60s/70s rock musicians. You can hear everything that has come after in his playing. Many of the times he was playing I wanted him to just break lose. It really wasn't until tonight that I realized that what I was thinking was probably the same thing guys like Eric and Page heard so many years ago. They probably thought the same thing, made it happen, and the rest is history.
