    I thought that was VF3?

Anyway, sucks to hear that VF5 is crap. If they dont fix it up then Sony will be a big loser (being an exclusive for PS3 and all).

  2. WOW, just WOW.

The amount of crap Shou is spouting here defies belief.

It doesnt help that my replies seem to be getting deleted either.

  3. Dammit, Ali, drop the Shou already. PM sent.

  4. You know that video I mentioned, I have one word for you: YouTube.

  6. assuming I buy a supergun from Mak, which one would you recommend? Will it play on a US TV and approximately how much are these in US dollars?

  7. They do have like 25 VF5 cabinets but the level of play is not high at all.
I did about 90% of my playing in Shibuya. It was never the highest level, but I'd say it's been consistently top of middle teir. I went back for work last month, and the same people were there. Same names, etc. etc. While not "famous players", I've got a few mates that can hold their own against those guys. Gama being one (Vanessa). There's a couple of high school students I know that'll consistently sit down and kick the shit out of everyone as well. O_O

As for VF5 being crap... well... I would definitely beg to differ. As for it being an updated VF4, yes, there's a lot of truth in that. But did we really need a revamped fighting engine? I mean who wants to relearn all that shit? I definitely don't. Not to mention it's still leaps and bounds above any other 3D fighting game. (DISCLAIMER: I think most 3D fighting games suck ass).

But still... I'm just over VF, and versus games in general. While fun and social, if I'm going to get all stressed out over a game, I'd rather get good at Cave's latest shooting game, where I don't have to rely on a lot of people being in the game center for me to enjoy it.

assuming I buy a supergun from Mak, which one would you recommend?
SIGMA SIGMA SIGMA (w/ the stick). Use it. Pull your pants down. Thank me later. If you have a PS2 and play shooting or fighting games, buy the 4000 yen (yes, I know) cable to use the stick on the PS2. Worth noting, G-Front has the current best deal on the sigma setup. I beleve 35,000 yen gets you the box, the stick, AND the Jamma harness. This is very strange as G-Front has such shitty prices.

gamengai: old ass Japanese games (some new ones too!)

  8. thanks to everyone for the info, especially GaiJinPunch!

Now, onto console stores. What store should I visit for general console stuff? I'm taking games, trinkets, posters, old, new, etc.

  9. That stuff is, believe it or not, pretty hard to find. Messe Sanno has tons of crap that you get when you buy new games (at full price). Most posters and other shit are promotional only, so you have to rely on the auctions for the most part. Of course, Akihabara is gachagacha (gashapon) heaven. They even have adult ones!

  10. I had a great time in Japan, thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I wussed out on the supernova, games are just too expensive (alien vs predator $300+!). G-front had the dual stick for $300, which was a great price. They had the sigma 7000 plus 1 stick for $350. Just seemed like a lot considering I'll be able to get a Wii for $250 and games are $50, not to mention the gameplay will be totally new and different vs investing a lot of money in something I've played a million times before.

I ended up buying a famulator ($30) and a bunch of games ($5-$15) including Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3 (in box), Popeye, Golf, etc. I mostly play mobile, so playing all of the Nintendo titles was refreshingly fun. I got most of this stuff at Super Potato. Only in Japan are there a dozen people meandering around a used videogame store at 10pm at night!

Super Potato also had a used Neo Geo for $140, a "junk" neo geo aes Samarai Spirits for $3 (bought that just to have it!), some George Foreman mega drive game for $600+, Ikaruga for $80+ (they told my translator twice, "tell him this is very expensive"). Popeye for famicom in box was $120!
