Thread: Official PlayStation 3 Thread

  1. I was never a big fan of jewel cases. They are just to easy to break. DVD cases are pretty resilient and look good on the shelf.

  2. The obvious compromise is DS-style cases. Best of both worlds, imo.

    pls blv.

  3. The jewel case style DVD cases are the best ones. They're just as big as the regular DVD cases but they're made the same way CD jewel cases are --- clear plastic, back insert, front insert/manual slides in/out of the inside of the front.

Plus they take up a shitload less space than the stupid DVD cases. I probably own less than half the number of PS2 games as I do PS1, but the PS2 games take up way more space on my shelf.

Well, more and more HD-DVDs these days are combo discs already, they just make it double sided (one side HD, the other regular)... this will make for discs that will still be one sided (aka, have the pretty label consumers love so much) and hopefully be cheaper as well so they can sell that instead of 2 versions.

Because HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are closly related, and as we all know, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray. I posted it because Sony will need to come up with something similar to be able to compete with this. This can really hurt Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, I don't see Sony coming up with anything since Toshiba is the company that makes DVD and HD-DVD, so that's why that's the format with the dual discs.

I hate jewel cases and agree with ElCapitan why. They break and crack too easily and get all scuffed up and whatnot. DVD cases are nice and durable and just look nicer. As I said, I actually like the new HD disc cases as well (in terms of design, maybe not color).

Never thought of that... that's a good idea, really.

  6. Why didn't these companies settle upon a unified standard like they did with DVD?

As I said, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray cases are like keepcases, but slimmer... so they take up much less space. I love them.

HD-DVD cases are all the same, and Blu-Ray cases are all the same. They are both very similar to each other, but if they couldn't settle on a common format, they certainly aren't going to want their cases to look exactly alike to confuse consumers.

I have no problems keeping my PS1/DC jewel cases in good shape. And even if you do fuck yours up, you can go to any store and buy a stack of empty replacement jewel cases for, like, $2.

Most of my stuff is in good shape too.. but I buy a lot of used stuff, and I can't say so much for those people. Plus, all my shelves are obviously made with DVDs in mind.

This thread is not about HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. It is about PlayStation 3.

There's a whole thread in Off-Topic dedicated to lol'ing at Blu-Ray. Go there if you want to lol at it.
