Recently, didn't Sony dramatically drop the amount of hardware at launch in order to make a sell-out likely? Production problems are code speak for "few want our hardware at $600."

Where do you get this stuff from? That's complete non sense. There is a production problem with the blue diodes needed to make Blu-Ray drives, which not only cut the supply of PS3's, but also Blu-Ray players. It's not because Sony wanted to make sure their system sold out.

I think if Sony was intentionally limiting the number of PS3's, they'd at least have the same number of consoles in the US and Japan. They'd probably go ahead and launch in Europe too if the games and everything else are ready.
