How often do people make $1000+ off a console? If I'm getting $1000+ in profit, I'll stand in line for 17 hours. Thats roughly $58+ an hour. $1000+ for one days work is about the same for some peoples 1 week paycheck
You do not know that ANY of these things are certain. You may get $1000 profit, you may just get a sore-ass and pnuemonia from sitting on lawn furniture in the middle of November for 18+ hours. Plus you have the ebay headache to deal with as well. It seems pointless unless you're guaranteed a system for your suffering.
I'm not a 360 fan-boy, either. I bought the system for 2 reasons, Gears anticipation, and Sony's various failings. Seriously, If you live in the US and have a PC, then everything points towards the 360. Live anywhere will be bigger and more useful than we know. Microsoft will have more system exclusives than Sony. Devil May Cry and God of War isn;t going to do it for me this gen.

Just take a look at completed eBay auctions. They range from $1200-1800.
"Sore ass" - get a pillow/cushion
"Pnuemonia" - wear more clothes. If it rains, get an umbrella
"eBay headache" - if you know what you're doing, you wont have any.
"pointless unless you're guaranteed" - you see how many PS3 systems the store will get. If you're usually the first <10 in line, you're fine. If not, then dont wait at that store and go else where.
Not much but with the retail price of PS3 being $600, I wouldnt be surprised if alot of PS3s get $1000 in profit. Once that first week or two is over and systems start to come in, price drops. With the PS3's horrible production, I dont know if that will hold true.
When Xbox360 came out, there were maybe a hand full maybe?
Soccer moms will pay anything for their little brats. Its been proven (tickle me elmo's, PS2, Xbox, Xbox360, etc.). Thats how it always is every holiday season. And for those who claim their "hardcore" rather pay the high priced item online rather then camp out.
The Japanese release of the PS3, majority of the people who got the PS3 were Chinese, not Japanese. Then again, the Japanese business men probably hired the Chinese to wait in line to sell on eBay.
This whole mess makes me want to go Cat Stevens. I hate Japan. I will hate the US on the 17th, but for today i hate Japan.
Donk
I saw a 360 go for $16k last christmas. If that happens with a PS3, that's $1k profit.

It was listed on Joystiq.com... so take it as you will. But they were referring to pre-orders selling out since they knew how many there were. And then since the pre-orders were sold out, people were buying the normal version of the system so they could play. Just what I read, I don't live there, I'm not the media.
