Thread: Tony Hawk's Project 8

  1. Look at this video of some one playing thp8 using the PS3's six axis controls. Personally I think this is super retarded and I hope its only an option and not required.

  2. If the 360 version has standard control, I don't think there's any possibility of that option not being on the PS3.

  3. 1up gives Tony a 9 out of 10. Called the best in the series, besting THPS4!

  4. In other news, the current gen versions for poor folk such as myself actually don't sound like shitty ports, and the 360 version struggles to maintain 30fps.

  5. I like THUG2.

Dolemite, the Bad-Ass King of all Pimps and Hustlers
Gymkata: I mean look at da lil playah woblin his way into our hearts in the sig awwwwwww

  6. I loved the demo, not so much liking the full game. Mostly because in the demo I didnt really give a rats ass about the missions and just skated' around, in the full game theres an overwhelming number of missions I couldnt care less about (unfortunately I believe thats how you unlock everything).

Then again, I only played the game for about half an hour, maybe it just takes getting used to.

  7. Have you ever played a THPS game? It's always been missions and shit. Hows the framerate? Master told me last night it's noticable, but how bad are we talking about? This should have been smooth as silk the whole time.

  8. This is from IGN's review of the PS2 version of THP8:

    How to Ruin Tony Hawk
Some absolutely terrible decisions were made for the current-gen Tony Hawk. Inexplicably, Shaba decided to alter one of the most basic control functions. Ever since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, gamers have pushed up-down (or down-up) to manual. This is how tricks were first linked and became the basis for the series' insanely long trick lines. In Project 8, you can still use the old way to manual, or you can press a face button to instantly manual. And, you don't have to revert anymore out of a quarterpipe. The new manual button covers the revert and continues the line. What. The. F@$&.

This ruins Tony Hawk. Ruins it. As I said before, this is Tony Hawk for dummies. Manual balance is also far too easy and coupled with the simplicity of the new trick system, pulling off huge combos can be done without any effort. I don't know who thought this is necessary for what is likely the final current-gen Tony Hawk, but they should be forced to sit in the corner for the next year.
Seriously, what the fuck, that is retarded. He calls the ps2 version the worst tony hawk ever, giving it a 6.3. What really sucks is how they stripped all the create a modes down or got rid of them all together, and why the hell does this version not have online support?

Sadly, this is the only option available to me since I won't be getting either of the next gen systems any time soon.

What ever, I'll still play it.

Also, I watched the video review of the next gen version, and I just want to point something out that he mentioned. He said that this was the first tony hawk in the past 5 years that actually had new stuff in there for you to learn. All I have to say about that is that I've been playing THUG1 again lately, and after 3 years of trying, I've FINALLY figured out how to wallie shuffle and how to do late ollies off of wallplants, not to mention how to wallie boost. Once you learn how to do this shit the game blows wide open and its like playing an entirely new game. I've been finding lines and transfers that I never even thought would be possible back when I first started playing this game.

I'm finally starting to understand the true reason why the hardcore thps fans dislike THUG and THAW. THUG1 is without a doubt the most technical game in the series. You can do so much stylish shit in it, and neversoft stripped most of that away in the later games.

Going by this last paragraph, did you mean to say "the hardcore thps fans dislike THUG 2" or THUG?

I agree though, those changes suck big time.

  10. oops, yeah I meant THUG2. There is so much stuff you can do in thug1 that you can't do in the others, or at least can't do as easily.
