This is why I don't waste money on good vodka anymore unless I'm entertaining. Sure, it doesn't smell like a hobo anymore, but I still don't enjoy drinking it on its own and if you're going to pour it into other stuff to drown it out anyway, I should have just bought the $8 handle of the paint thinner stuff.

Just not into vodka. Gin yes, scotch yes, vodka no.

At formal events, mixed drinks and wine are really the only option since there is only 2 or 3 beers on tap, and straight liquor isn't appropriate.

In response to Grave: Yeah, top shelf vodka is absolutely worthless unless you're mixing with tonic water/martini. And who the fuck does that anyway.

thats why I said give me a bottle of Skoal over Absolut any day. And yes, if that was the case, I would mix it because shooting or sipping that stuff is gross. Gin I've never gotten into, although Bombay in a top shelf LIID is to die for. I think I'm gunna pick up a bottle tonight and try just sipping on some with ice (although I really dislike gin by itself), if there's a really good garnish or supplement to that let me know and I'll pick some up to try it.

lol at my cousin's wedding I was walking around with a Grey Goose on the rocks after downing 2 jugs of table wine. I was one of 2 people at my table drinking from the two 1 gallon jugs of red and white. made me not drink wine for a hot minute there.

*edit* totally disagree with the vodka statement. top shelf vodka on ice or straight shots is fantstic.

Much appreciated.
I recommend Belvedere vodka, Woodford Reserve bourbon, or Maker's Mark. The Woodford Reserve is highly recommended (so sip it!).

A vodka stinger is 1 part creme de menthe and 1 part vodka shaken and served in a martini glass. A "whiskey back" is a sidecar of whiskey to chase the stinger.

sounds deliscious, thanks Meach. and yeah, when I worked at that classy bar I got to try all three of the liquors you just mentioned, totally forgot about Belvedere. The Maker's Mark was definetly good, but that Woodford is where it's at. I think I just got sold on my bourbon, thanks again.
GODDAMNIT WHY ISN'T IT 5 YET?! I wanna start drinking like right now.

  7. arite so I just got back from practice and I'm already feelin nice, finished of my 1/3 of a liter of Bicardi so I could start on the stuff I got today. I didn't have time to make it to the giant liquor store, so I ended up settling on a few things. They didn't have Woodbridge (which I actually have a keychain thing of I realized) so I got Maker's Mark. Got a bottle of Bombay Sapphire (still looking for someone to tell me a good mixer for that). They only had the Van Gogh espresso, which was a special order for someone, so I neglected that and went with level, which I've only had once in a mixed drink. Picked up a bottle of Johny Walker Red because I've never tried that (having a glass of it on the rocks right now, and it's deliscious and fucking me up). And had to get my bottle of Patron. Haven't broken that open yet, gunna save it for tomarrow night since I don't work Teusday. Makers and the Johny I have no problem drinking on the rocks as they are just awesome, but the Bombay I've never done straight, and I know I can't because of how much I hate the taste of gin. Does anyone have a preference about the different Johny labels? This is the first I've tried and I'm enjoying it thouroghly (sp).

*edit* hooray, 125 posts! A bunch more and another month and I can request VB access.

I've never had Bombay before this weekend, and while I hated gin before hand, drinking Bombay straight was actually delicious albeit strong as shit.

As for Johnny Walker... I've hated them all except Blue Label, but i'd lol at anyone who ever paid that price for the bottle without special occasion.

Also, thumbs up on the level. It's good vodka.

I'd like to know any TNLers that have actually bought a bottle of Blue themselves. Crazy expensive.

Tonic water and lime, or nothing. You'll like it.

I've always been curious, but I don't think anything can be worth what it costs per glass, let alone a bottle. Blended scotch does not have the best connotations in my head, but I'm sure if I had the chance to try it I'd look past that.
