He's loud and twists around a lot to cover the fact that he's pretty mediocre as a stand-up, but - of course - people eat it up.
I watched this for nearly two hours. For a 100 minute show, I should laught at least 100 times. I laughed maybe 3 or 4 times.
Is it just me or is this guy not funny?

I think he has his moments, but he's got fairly average material that he tries to turn into something good by yelling loudly at you and repeating himself until you laugh. It reminds me of Norm McDonald's last years as SNL Weekend Update guy where he stared into the camera until you giggled.

He's a good college story teller, he knows his audience very well. He had some really funny material for the special but it really is love it or hate it. He usual repeats himself when he doesn't get the laugh he thought he would, then he'll throw him a quick tangent to make up for it ("I used to have really bad allergies as kid, that's why I'm rubbing my eye so much for this so don't worry. Had a hive on my eyelid or something!")

Article is kinda harsh, but yeah fuck his standup. He should stick to Stiller/Sandler-esque roles in romantic comedies or something.
I called a few friends over so we could watch it and my fucking cable box goes out. LKDYGLKHDGKDGLH. I fixed it and it went out a couple times until I finally slapped the fucking thing and it worked. We missed like 30-40 minutes of the show. From what we saw, it was good. Not George Carlin good, but good.
I mean, come on, he made a fucking reference to Mortal Kombat!
That reviewer has something up his ass. How about Bill Cosby as an example of a comedian whos comedy didn't come from personal pain or neurosis? His notions that comedians can only have a certain personality type are rediculous. The article reeks of jealousy over Cook's popularity.
Dane Cook exists in this special place were he seems to be incredibly adored and hated at the same time. The truth is that his standup is pretty average, with some really shitty material and some that is really hilarious. He really gets into it in his standup routine, which is both annoying (yelling and repeating himself) but also works because he is pretty intense and it fits his style. Basically he doesn't deserve the attention he gets, but he makes me laugh sometimes.
