DO IT COCKSUCKER
Wow....how ironic this thread gets bumped when I was just about to start a thread about this game.
Anyway, as I swore off all things Trackmania for years after initially spending time with Sunrise and hating Stadium, well, I never thought it would happen but I am back into Trackmania in a BIG way!
I've been playing TMUF non-fucking-stop for the past two weeks and the addiction is getting dangerous! I hated stadium at first but now it's the only environment I play. I guess when going from playing Trackmania using a gamepad on a 18" laptop screen, to playing it on a 110" front projection screen with a wheel and pedals and surround sound plus updated graphics made all the difference in the world. It is literally a night and day experience.
A lot of people have suggested to me to ditch my steering wheel and pick up the keyboard or a 360 controller for TM. So I'd like to add a few comments regarding that issue:
The quality of the wheel I use is virtually identical if not superior to the ones used in the arcade. That alone makes a huge difference.
I play Trackmania because when playing on a wheel, a set of pedals, and in front of a 110" projection screen with surround sound, it literally delivers the arcade experience!
You see, I am a huge arcade racing game fan. I grew up taking the bus or getting a ride to arcades JUST to play Ridge Racer or Outrun or Daytona. Trackmania is a very fast and adrenaline-fueled racing game, and it reminds me of those games. You could argue that another twichy original arcade game like Ridge Racer would have been better played with a keyboard too. But since that game came out in the arcade, it has a wheel attached to it and there was no kb/pad option obviously. Did that take away from its fun experience? Not in the least.
Yes I agree....some corners in TMUF, particularly in Stadium can be very twitchy at times and you must react very quickly to drive them without braking. But as I continue to play the game more, I am finding that with enough practice and with enough time getting to know the tracks in the server I play on(there are over 70 tracks!!), I can take corners, loop-the-loops, and wall-rides just as competently as a KB/Pad user.
T-R-U-S-T me when I tell you this guys, a wheel and pedal set is more fun than a KB/pad once you get used to it. The extra challenge is more rewarding, and when you complete a track successfully and get within the top 10 out of 100, it's a great feeling
By the way the server I race in is called *OFClan FullSpeed* and is always jammed packed with at LEAST 50 drivers every day and often times is filled to the brim with over 100 drivers! Lots of extremely hard tracks in there too, including "Prelude" by Junavara.
Come check it out
By the way, anyone wanna tackle *my time on this track* ? Go on, I dare ya![]()
I get a little freaked out when people copy/paste their posts from GAF.
Anyway, I can't say that I've ever seriously considered a wheel+pedal for this game. It's far too pick-up-and-play, if that makes sense.
And yeah, Stadium is the way to go. Has a perfect balance of arcadey speed + technical racing line stuff without getting Coast-ridiculous.
Now you made me start playing Trackmania again. I was clean for months. FUCK YOU ALL.
