Thread: RIP Harmonix 2001-Absorption by MTV

  1. The playlists are going to get tackier, worst case scenario.

  2. Guitar Hero is owned by Red Octane is owned by Activision. Harmonix is owned by MTV is owned by Viacom. Doesn't Viacom have a game publishing label already?

  3. Frequency is my favorite PS2 game. And I really liked Karaoke Revolution.

    This blows.

Red Octane owned the publishing rights. So, where does this leave Activision in the deal?

  5. That means Activision gets to publish Guitar Hero, seeing as they own Red Octane. The real question is what happens to Harmonix's involvement in Guitar Hero 3.

  7. I can't wait for Harmonix to make "Road Rules vs. The Hills: Kill Us Now" for PS3.

  8. For what it's worth:

We will continue to work on Guitar Hero, but now have the marketing might of MTV to help us achieve our initial goal: to allow everyone to experience the joy a musician feels performing music.
As long as Harmonix doesn't revert to making shitty pop-rock playlists like they did on Amplitude, I don't really care which company is backing the game.

Realistically though, I find it hard to believe that MTV won't have some type of influence on the type of tracks that get selected for future Harmonix games.

  9. Amplitude's tracklist wasn't that bad in comparison to a lot of music games out there.

But it was a lot worse than Frequency.
