2006 Midterm Elections

Normally, no one would give two shits or a fuck about the midterm elections in the United States. It is that general apathy that has caused the turnover among Congress to be, as Michael Moore pointed out, less than that of the Politburo in the old Soviet Union. This time is different though, after six years the Republican majority government seems to be coming apart at the seams. The shiftless Dems are finally beginning to cobble together an alternative message. They are poised to take back the House and make gains in the Senate, but the GOP is not going to lose power without a knockdown, drag out fight.

So, let this be the thread for you to post everything on the Senate, House, Gubernatorial, or even local races in your area. Talk about the candidates, the issues, updates, and then finally predictions going into November. Also, for the sake of levity, post some of the attack ads (using the imbedded youtube or Google video) for that beautiful homegrown taste of America's political Theatre of the Absurd.

I'll get us started, with a gem from my state's Democratic challenger for the Senate seat being vacated by Senate Majority Leader (and moronic zealot) Bill 'She's not a vegetable' Frist, the savvy Harold Ford Jr.:





There are some good Corker ads too, but I couldn't find them anywhere. I should also mention that all these ads, for both sides, are almost assuredly either distortions, mischaracterizations, or flat out lies. Such is the nature of the beast.

i live in pennsylvania..im not even turning on the tv for the next month, the swann/rendell, santorum/casey, murtha/whoever the hell he is running against not that it matters because no sane person in johnstown would vote against him because his porkbarrel military favors employ half the town, attack ads are already reaching the heights of stupidity, its a waste since i already know who im on in all 3 cases(guess who in murtha vs.who gives a fuck, just guess.. a hint is contained within this very parenthetical) and all these over the top ads arent going to affect me one way or the other.

It'd be very nice if the Dems gained a few seats and Kerry Healey loses the gubernational race in Masschusetts. I hate anyone associated with Mitt Romney, including anyone who votes for him in the primaries 2 years from now. The guy sucks.

Dems look poised to win Florida House Seat after Rep. Mark Foley's e-mail correspondence with a former teen Congressional page becomes public. Oh, and let's all give the GOP a big hand for keeping Foley on the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children even after they knew a as soon as late '05 of his inappropriate dealings with the teen.

The funny thing is that he was talking to a 16-year old. If he went and had sex with the 16-year old no laws would be broken. But thanks to a law FOLEY HIMSELF PUSHED THROUGH CONGRESS, sending messages like he did (and read the IMs, they are creepy as fuck) is illegal to under 18 year olds. SELF OWNED!

New Jersey is a joke. We have the corrupt Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, who is right now fighting off a scandal, and Tom Kean Jr., whose father is well loved by many NJ residents but the son seems shady as hell.

I have no idea who to vote for, probably the socialist candidate.

All of our senate candidates have the same stupid video. "So and so supported Bush on all these pricey taxes... So and so believes that marriage should be between a loving man and loving woman only". I guess that's all Ohio cares about right now.
