It's like other fighters -- you need to basically become a part of the community and get to know the game inside out before it makes a lot sense. The combos aren't necessarily intuitive and the stuff that may look easy in a video is actually really hard a lot of times (jump installs, etc.).
Like the old SF community -- they knew the game inside out so whichever character was used, you'd understand how to react. The problem is that games such as GG are not casual and take a lot of time and practice and you need a group of people to play against (and to travel to tournaments).
I love slash but stopped playing cause I couldn't keep up...it's amazingly balanced. Can't wait to see how AC is to play, but the best bet is to get a solid online version out there on the 360/PS3 with a good joystick.
