Y'mean this stuff?
I've heard not of this so far in school. What's the advantage?
any of you TNL designers Adobe certified? i've been toying with at least getting Photoshop certified once i saw the exams are down to $150. thing is, i really don't like how (from what i've read) the exams are geared more towards knowing every facet of the menus without having them in front of you than they are real world use. thoughts, comments?

from everything i read yo get your name on their national list and can put the ACE logo on your business cards (etc.). i guess it's like A+ certification and what not for the IT field. Not really bragging rights, but a way to show prospective employers you know your shit. Usually if you're in a job and get certified they pay you more, or if you're starting a job you usually get more pay. But like i said from what i've seen of them they're not really based off of real world use. There's different levels of certification with the higher ones being more towards if you want to teach.
It would seem like a decent amount of brownie points, though.
Sounds useless actually. Nobody gives a shit if you're certified unless you're colour correcting all day (which is actually good money -- but boring as shit) and I doubt it will actually help you out in any way. In fact most firms I've dealt with didn't even realize it existed when I asked them if it mattered (this was during school, we had to go around and interview and check out agencies and studios and shit).
Unless you know of a job that you want which requires it I'd say keep the $150 dollars and put it towards the latest version of Quark (or whiskey. Either or).

A Quark licence is like $1500 per computer. They anal rape you every chance they get (and InDesign is better). The problem is that everyone's back up file archives are in Quark.

I looked into doing this over the summer, and I found that your time is better spent improving your skills with Adobe software to impress your employer/potential employers then the memorization you need to go through to pass the certification test. The skill sets that the certification test provides you with is more so to make you more fluent in using Adobe software then it is providing you with practical experience that could help you improve what you are currently doing with their software.
Like Andrew said, it's pretty much useless.
