Actually as far as story goes it's a little thin compared to SIn City, which some consider thin to begin with. It's going to be interesting to see how they get a 2 hour movie out of this. The art in the comic is amazing (If I had to take one guess John Romita Jr. did it) and the style in this movie is just as amazing. Every scene had an unreal feel to it.
2007 has this, Ninja Turtles, Transformers,Pirtes and Spider-man. It feels good to be alive if your a comic geek.
look here, upon a sig graveyard.
Really. Wow I can never see Frank as an penciler becuase of Dark Knight Strikes Again.
My friends and I have been having an ongoing discussion about the state of movies and how there just aren't "special" movies anymore. When was the last time you came out of the theatre thinking, "I just saw something special"?
I know I've watched something special when I turn off the TV after an episode of The Shield, Lost, 24, The Sopranos (minus Season 6), heck, sometimes even West Wing. But it hasn't happened for me with a movie since, basically, 1999 (The Matrix, Fight Club and I think Princess Mononoke).
There are a variety of reasons for this: a two-hour film cannot compete with the character exploration one gets in a serial; films are aimed at a younger, less patient demographic; and many of the most interesting stories/situations have already been explored (think about how many times you watch a movie - it might even have been interesting - and think "Yeah, but ______ did it first and did it better").
I haven't seen a "Special. Movie." in 7 years. 2007 will make it 8.
Is there any reason to even care about movies anymore? After watching the HD trailer for "300" my answer is:
Fuck. Yes.

you are not going to the movies often enough then.
That looks fucking amazing. It's a very different style (films are generally about a cohesive story, something that happens in only about five television series ever) and the medium as a whole is hardly aimed at what you claim it to be. Take a look at Akira Kurosawa films for a prime example of how two-hour films can easily best any television program ever aired for character exploration.
Yes, many blockbuster movies these days are empty vessels and/or remakes, but as for "something special" movies since 2000: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind stands out as incredibly excellent and Hard Candy was very interesting and Snakes on a Plane. I know there are some others whose names escape me right me; in any case you're just not paying attention.
I'd like to think my own ignorance is to blame; having seen most of the movies released in the last few years it's clear it is not.
Haven't seen Eternal Sunshine. I'll be sure to rent it. Referencing Kurosawa's great films misses my point entirely. Mother-fucking Snakes on That Mother-fucking Plane proves my point.
I'm not saying current films can't be enjoyable or interesting.
They're just not "special."
