Thread: Retro games?

I was soo close to getting Doom, but I had the Xbox Doom 3 LE sitting there, and I played through Ultimate Doom, and then I didnt feel like spending another 10 bucks

Well, there's give and take. Sure, $8 seems steep for Super Mario World, whose SNES cart you could probably find for $3-5. But then you have rare (or in high demand) games like Earthbound and, potentially, Chrono Trigger or FFIII, copies of which would run you $50-100 now. If those can be purchased for that same $8, that's quite the savings.

And yeah, I know, roms are free, blah blah. Not really the issue here.

No, but I'm interested in playing old games I haven't played. But not for the prices most seem to go for, so I'll just stick to pirating.

Gametap seems like a good deal, though. If Nintendo and Microsoft were to adapt that model for VC and XBLA respectively I'd be willing to shell out cash.

  4. XBLA games are fun as hell. I look at the value of the game, about five dollars, against how much I'll be playing it on average, and taking advantage of the new features (achievments, leaderboards especially, online multiplay) and usually it more than justifies the cost.

It's true. I've spent about 20x more time playing SFII and Galaga than I have Madden 07.

  6. I'll always buy older games if I haven't played them before. I prefer the physical game on the real hardware any time. Only game I could imagine myself buying is SuperMario 64 as my cousin stole my n64 - Then again - that is if I ever get through the hassle of getting it online.

  7. If they keep adding things like online yes, if not than I don't care. I wont be paying 8-10 for ultra common shit like mario and sonic anyway though.

  8. Having games just a click away like XBLA is indeed a huge advantage. I sure wouldn't play Geometry Wars much if it was on a disc with loading times, but as an XBLA title I play a game or two almost every time I turn my 360 on. Many retro games would benefit similarly... I've hardly touched my Xbox copy of Taito Legends, but if I could jump right into an XBLA version of Bubble Bobble from the 360 dashboard while I wait for downloads to finish, I'd probably have played a couple hours of that alone. Achievements and scoreboards are even more icing on the cake.

    That may involve Madden sucking.
    kekeke

I'll be buying FFIII DS. Regardless of the fact it has never been released, and will be an updated version, does that keep it Retro? HRM.

  10. Yes I rebuy. I have (I think) 23 of the 30 or so games on XBLA and will likely buy the other few. No need for discs, leaderboards, a nice quick game to play while chatting (you don't really want to chat and play something like SP Splinter Cell for instance)...lots of reasons why Zboz is the best console ever.
