I'm fucking shocked. I thought you, diff, kano, and gozen formed some sort of mean meany Voltron.

  2. Yes, people of all kinds fight in wars. On the ground, where the people who can hold a gun and sometimes chew gum go. Not in a Mach 2, 41,500 lb Fighter plane. That tends to be a tiny bit harder to qualify for, even in a time of war. I think by the time of Vietnam they had moved past the stage in the evolution of flying when a simple farm boy could volunteer to get trained by the flying corps and go fly a Sopwith Camel. As for military types hiding health problems, ya, usually they do tend to hide things. But those things tend to get found. And I'm not going to sit here and try to prove he was sane when he entered congress. That's futile. Face it, nothing we know of in his past life showed him to be anything other than an American hero. And he got into congress and shit all over that legacy.

That's what I was saying. I want a fucking "eject" button, dammit.

Let's see... which button to push today?

    HASTERT. *sproinnnnnnng*

  4. If there were an option to recall elected officials on a Federal level, I think it'd end in shambles. They race a lot more risk than those in lower parts of the government. For any hot-button issue they can just be pushed out of office and bam, new guy steps in. It's fine the way it is. We just need real leaders to run. That'll solve the problem.

A recall isn't so simple as you may think, it usually takes gross incompetence to even get people motivated enough to propose it and even then it's essentially a new election and those who still support the candidate can vote against the recall. I say it's an improvement over just having to sit and suffer through an incompetent's term.
    Time for a change

  6. BOXER! *fwooooosh*

I need to get to work on this asap.

I'm just saying, and I think gozen or diff have said this in a previous thread, but being a war hero doesn't make someone a good political leader. We give vets too much credit in that regard. yes, we should thank them for what they did, but treating them like they are all around great human beings is just stupid.

oh, not to derail the thread, but you're grasping at straws. you aren't going to be able to make an argument that proves that being a fighter piolet makes someone a great awesome smart and sane person.

I don't pretend to claim that being a war hero makes someone a great political leader or even a great person. Lots of war heroes have been complete assholes who happened to be in the right place at the right time. But it does take brains to fly a fighter plane, even if you refuse to believe that. Great and awesome and sane, not so much. But as I said before, nothing before he got into power showed him to be corrupt. And unless you've graduated from Medical school and can diagnose a person from your computer desk, don't be telling me he's insane or whatever.

And I think my straws have more substance than yours.

  9. Assuming this is true and not Rolling Stone B.S.: People abusing a system put in place to avoid this kind of communist-style one-sided government makes me angry and I'm not even American.

I guess the apathetic ideals of a lot of Americans today allows this kind of shit to go on. Back in the 30's everyone was big on politics so when something like this happened the smear campaign was way more potent. Also why old people seem to vote in greater numbers than anyone else. They've invested more of themselves in to their country and less in to just themselves.

IBTN well said. The problem with America is everybody likes to bitch on message boards, in bars, etc. However they are too busy to vote, it's pathetic.
