Thread: Inmate forcibly tattoos another

  1. Trust is always the thing. So where do we draw the line at trust? Trust in the system which has been shown repeatedly to fuck up. Trust the judges, lawyers, and the lab techs who also fuck up.

Trust the criminal? Who has definitely fucked up?

I say we can give a very small amount of trust to the system, like our founding fathers did. Which is why our legal system is so glacially slow. So fuckups are easier to catch and innocent people at least get a chance to defend themselves. But in the end we have to let criminals go when they've served out their punishment. If not, then what?

One major shortcoming that I feel our entire society has made regarding this issue, however, is that there is likely a high probability that many (certainly not all) child molestors demonstrate strong, detectable indications of their future behavior in childhood.

I knew a kid once who was severely mentally retarded, and even as a young child it was patently obvious that he would never integrate into society, yet everyone- his parents (older, good but very simple, ignorant people), school, etc -just insisted on 'raising him like everyone else'. By the time he reached puberty he had no concept whatsoever of appropriate behavior, displayed a tendency toward violence, and is now in prison for child molestation.

This behavior could be easily be predicted when he was a child (it was pretty obvious) and he should have been placed in a group home then- but there was (and still isn't) any type of infrastructure in place in that town or surrounding counties that could take him by the time he was a teenager.

I've also seen, worked with, and spoken to several people who work in group homes that do work with those age groups, and a staggering number of them make no provision for once the children they care for become adults. It's really like they babysit them until they turn 18, after which they will be 'turned loose' and end up in prison. I asked a friend who works at such a home how many of the males he thought would commit sexual assaults once they grew up or weren't under heavy supervision, and he said that he'd "be very surprised if more than 30% of them did not."

  3. We should just euthanise them at birth. I'm not saying that to be an asshole, either. I think it's really selfish to raise a child you know has problems like that. Why put your child through it? The worst part is, that kid who is in prison for child molestation probably doesn't even understand what's going on.

Unfortunately, I'm almost inclined to agree with you.

He has no clue whatsoever, he doesn't understand AT ALL. He will get out of prison in a couple of years and probably do the exact same thing.

  6. If you kill a ten year old girl, a tattoo on your forehead is getting off easy.

If I was that girl's cousin I probably would have just beat him to death.

Tagging them or otherwise letting the community know about them sometimes leads to vigilante justice.
    Where's the down side?

  10. Because vigilante justice is no kind of justice at all. See Birth of a Nation if you think otherwise.
