Thread: Beyond Divinity

    Beyond Divinity

I've recently been playing Divine Divinity (per NeoZeed's suggestion) and really like it. Think Diablo with the kind of depth of Morrowind to get an idea, as well as an amazing soundtrack.

In the '2007' thread, I was made aware of it's sequel, Beyond Divinity. Rather than derail that thread, I wanted to get some impressions. Reviews are really mixed on it (as they are with the first one), so I've heard good and bad. Has anyone here played it? What did you think?
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

  2. I played it briefly because I had heard it compared to planescape torment, hence my name. But the graphics leave alot to be desired, not that games like this are meant to look great.

Even for the time the interface seemed a little archaic but I have heard that if you stick to it there is a rewarding experience to be found.

On another note I believe that this was one of the games that used the Starforce copy protection that many pc gamers adored. Just a little warning there.

  3. Yes, you're right about the StarForce. And the developers are quick to point out that this isn't technically a "sequel", more a side-story. There's actually a Divine Divinity 2.

I haven't played it as I still need to finish DD, but most agree that while it's good, it's nowhere near the greatness of DD.

You mean the game I posted a screen of in the 2007 thread? I don't think they have given that game a name yet as I checked their website the other day. It wouldn't surprise me if they call it that though.

Good choice on picking up Divine Divinity, Vasteel.

  5. I haven't read your 2007 thread, Neo. I remember hearing about DD2 a couple years ago, I think in this interview with the developers (the game, Riftrunner, they refer to is Beyond Divinity):

    There's also this IGN preview:

    http://pc.ign.com/articles/423/423625p1.html

... which is from 2003. I just checked the Larian boards and couldn't find any mention of a DD2. So yeah, maybe the DD2 referred to in the interview was scrapped, and their new title is unrelated? Or maybe their new title is in fact DD2, but I don't know why they wouldn't be advertising it as such.

  6. I've never played Divine Divinity, but its the best title I've heard since Revengers of Vengance.

That automatically puts it out of the question then. Oh well.

  8. I didn't feel like starting a new thread for this, and this was the closest to an official thread that the search function could find.

Atlus is going to reissue Divinity 2 on 360, and it includes all the DLC and the expansion that never came out on console. No word on cost though.

Divine Divinity sequel Divinity II: Ego Draconis was released on Xbox 360 in late 2009 by CDV, but now it's getting a second release from a new publisher. Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga collects an "extensively remastered" version of Ego Draconis, the expansion, Flames of Vengeance, and all DLC to date in one bundle that new publisher Atlus estimates at 100 hours of content.

Now that it's an Atlus game, Divinity fans will be able to get some "Spoils." Each copy of the game printed for the April 12 launch will include a soundtrack CD. If you're not a fan of the open-world action RPG series, perhaps it would interest you to know that the "Dragon Knight" in the title, who is the player character, is not a knight who fights dragons, but rather a knight who is also a dragon.

    Actually, he fights dragons too.
I finished this game with 1000/1000, and I want to play the expansion, so I'll get this when it's cheap.
