::Raises hand:: Is there anything wrong with that? Mind you, I've literally owned every major console and handheld since 1984. This will likely be the first generation in which I won't own all of the major consoles. As of today, I've no interest in owning a PS3 and little interest (although it has slowly been growing as of late) in owning an XBOX360.
I haven't been following too closely, but didn't Sony say they would have 3 million PS3s for launch during E3? Maybe it wasn't E3, but I remember them saying that. What the fuck Sony?
lol graphix.
I for one am not going to own more than a Wii for some time. Not because 360 or PS3 suck or whatever, but just cuz I simply can't afford to get a 360 or a PS3. I'm more than happy just playing 3-4 amazing games a year straight from nintendo, then spending hundreds of dollars to buy consoles that just don't have the games that appeal to me. I'll probably get a PS3 a few years from now, but I'll have to wait and see for the 360.
My plans are to get a 360 when the premium drops to 250 - 300, Gears of War looks fucking hot, Assasin's Creed is a must buy for me, other than that it's a lot of well if I had the system and could get the game cheap I'd buy it games. PS3 kind of the same attitude when the 60 gig version can be had somewhere in the 200 - 300 range then I'll get it.
Dog$ is correct, arguing the exact same point I argued in some random thread 4 years ago. Anyone is free to enjoy any game on any console, and the many less "capable" systems of any particular generation were and are obviously home to quality games. But there's no escaping the fact that "video" is generally critical, if not paramount, to videogames, and arguing that, on balance, the graphics simply don't matter is beyond ridiculous. That doesn't mean you can't have fun playing tetris, just like you can have fun playing any game (video or otherwise) that doesn't place heavy emphasis on cutting edge visuals. But again, graphic fidelity is a central component to the medium, and, all things being equal, better graphics are better than poorer graphics. Duh.
"Fiends! Animals! Bastards!"
but are all things equeal? on multiconsole ports, nobody is arguing that the wii will be the weakest system. But there will be console exclusives, and there will be games that use the wii's unique control scheme, much like there are for the ds, a system that is graphicly weaker than its competitor, but still is praised for unique games such as trauma center which couldnt have been done in the same manner on the stronger psp. graphics are important, but craftsmanship of the console exclusives will carry the day.

The people who are enjoying the wii, just don't give a shit about having incredible graphics.
Dog your analogy is wrong becuase graphics isn't solely what games are about. If apple released a new OS with no beefy increase in computing power, people would have a right to bitch beuase they would be paying +1000 for same old shit.
However if Apple released a OS solely designed to do focus on a few thing like the multimedia functions of a apple OS(Garageband, Imovie,IDVD,Final Cut, etc..) then no one will give a fuck becuase they are geting what they are paying for. They are getting a drop in one area for an increase in another.
That's what the wii is in theory. Are you getting improved power in the box. Yes. Are you getting new features your predecessor didn't have? Yes. Are you geting comparable power to the other devices on the market. No
Are you getting a innovative controller than your compeition don't have. Yes. Are you getting exclusive content from 1st and 3rd party developers thanks to the controller. Yes.
Is it worth the price? Depends on you(In your case easily no, but I wouldn't be suprised if you pulled the "I'm getting it later" card)but historically yes. Wave to the mac mini's.
Here's the point you're missing though. The controller is not innovative. Aside from that, why would developers care about using the controller in good ways when the masses will buy whatever shit they put out because they're starving for games? I'm certainly not in the "I'm going to get one later crowd". There isn't crap all to get excited over. Same shit Mario, Same shit Metroid, great. I'm excited. If these games came out on 360 under a different name/franchise they'd get 3s for being so ugly and crap ass to play. Bioshock or Metroid Prime 3? It's just beyond pathetic. MP3 will look (and play) like a god damn Tiger LCD handheld game after playing Bioshock. I mean SSB Melee Wii or whatever the hell will be 50 dollars in late 07, and in two days Small Arms comes out and will cost 10 dollars and include online play on a good network, leaderboards, etc. All this Nintendo junk is tack on bullshit control and put a big name on it and you've got a hit.
