    That site sucks.
Yeah I know, there's no way 200,000 people came to their senses and realized the whole thing was based on a gimmick and took them back. I just don't have that kind of faith in humanity.
    Time for a change

Consumers generally set a cap amount of what they're willing to spend on leisure and entertainment, especially during a time of rising fuel and heating costs (though these have somewhat settled), a declining housing market, and higher interest rates. The PS3 itself takes up significantly more of that cap than the Wii or 360, leaving less dollars to buy games.
$600 for a videogame system is a whimsical launch purchase in and of itself. I highly doubt that most gamers have a budget cap of exactly $600, preventing them from buying any games with their PS3's. Why would a budget conscious gamer buy a $600 PS3 when there's already a $400 Xbox360 and a $250 Wii available? He wouldn't; the reason PS3 games aren't selling is because gamers aren't buying PS3's, resellers are. If someone's willing to drop over half a grand on a videogame console, what's another $50 to actually have something to play on it?

Sony has applied their bully method of forcing their proprietary media formats down throats to their videogame division. The result is the languishing of their videogame division, just like every other division they've tried this with. PSP memory stick duo and UMD's? PSP is getting trounced and you can't give away UMD movies. PS3 Bluray? PS3 will be Sony's Saturn. The parallels are eerie; unreasonable price, horrible tie-in ratio, 7 processors working in tandem....

The N64's analog stick was called a gimmick too.

If the PS3 is Sony's Saturn, then it's library will completely demolish Nintendo's contemporary, so I might buy that argument somewhat.

That's really like night and day, people bitched about the analog stick being uncomfortable to be sure. But I don't recall the word gimmick coming up much since for 3-d games it really was better. This was obvious as soon as you started playing a 3-d game, the wii however has not proved itself. And the advantage (if there is one) hasn't shown itself.

Some are 60 too. Yeah, the one in Ajax. I would say Pickering but Pickering sucks.

A really really fucking fun gimmick.

I think it's way too early to say anything like this in certain terms. I think the Playstation brand name has a lot more recognition with moms and kids right now (in America too) than you're giving them credit for. The problem I see is a whole slew of worthwhile 360 games this year and not many PS3 ones coming until probably Christmas (like the first year of the PS2), which means a lot of good positive word of mouth about the new 360 games while PS3ers are grinding their teeth (and maybe jumping ship).

There were plenty of people calling the analog stick a gimmick before they used it though, just like people are calling the Wiimote a gimmick before using it. Wii Bowling proves the utility of the Wiimote and demonstrates it's advantages regarding gameplay, and that's just the pack-in game.

  9. I'd like a Wii darts game. Complete with people on the sides you can hit if you so desire.

I dunno about victims on the sides, but Wii Play (coming in January) has darts I believe.
