You can be of Hebrew ancestory and yet not be a religious Jew, but that doesn't make it a race. It's an ethnicity in that it's tied to a region and a 'tribe' as much as it is to a culture and a religion. However, there's nothing different about one semitic person or the next. So, all the characteristics we associate with 'Jews' are just as prominent with Lebanese, Syrians, Iraqis, Palestinians, etc.

So is it in ANY way different than being "1/4 black?" Isn't that an ethnicity tied to a region? I know you'll argue "race" is an abstract concept created by man - but if it goes for one group should it go for others too?
Can't we all just get along?
It's different in that 'Jew' isn't a race, like I already said. It's essentially a tribal identity and nothing more. As for your the rest of your statements; race IS an illusion created by man. However, even within that outmoded, unscientific view there is a triumvirate of races; Caucasoid, mongoloid, and negroid. Everything else, by that viewpoint, is created strictly by cultural anthropological differences. What the racist scientists of the late 19th and early 20th century failed to realize is that it's ALL created by cultural anthropological differences and tinged with very minor environmental alterations. So, essentially you were wrong even by the criteria of your own world view, regardless of the fact that the entire view itself is wrong.
Show me the Ashkenzai Jew gene. It does not exist. There is no particular genetic code that makes them a different race or species from me.
