Because you're used to the sharper resolution of 480p, and it's hard to go back down to standard. Likewise, I've had my 360 for a while now, and I've been watching TV shows in HD for even longer, so it's really hard to go back down to anything less than 720p.

Nintendo's stubborn "we don't want to be like them" attitude has already held them back the last two generations, and it looks to hold them back once more. Resolution isn't something I wouldn't buy a system for, but given today's standards and where visual media is headed, it's almost unacceptable. Imagine the Wii not even supporting 480p. That's how I feel about it not supporting HD.

I don't think it's "we don't want to be like them" so much as "the majority of the mainstream hasn't adopted broadband/HDTV/whatever yet so let's save money and not do it". I agree that the Wii would be a better system if it output HD graphics, it's not a dealbreaker for me though because I'm used to 480p. I've seen lots of HD, and it's gorgeous, but 480p doesn't make me wretch. Playing in standard def on an HDtv is absolutely brutal though, and Nintendo dropped the ball by not including component cables.

Doesn't the 360 come with component now? Or am I mistaken?

I recall the recent NY Times review of the PS3, one of their biggest gripes was Sony not including component cables with the system. I imagine it saves a company a decent amount of money not packing them in, but they're certainly not as pricey as HDMI cables. But Nintendo just not having them available practically anywhere, period is far worse than both they and Sony not including them with their consoles.

  3. "Nintendo releasing the old Cube build of the game as a fan service "

Woah woah woah there....let's get this straight. Zelda is on the Wii to move Wiis. It doesn't have a 3:4 attach ratio (higher than Halo, even) for nothing. If they actually do release it on the Cube, it'll be so they aren't seen as total assholes for screwing over a portion of their fanbase. Not 'fan service'. The fact that you call this fan service is proof that you've got heavy blinders on.

Do you not pay attention to the industry? Developers almost never release games for their original systems after development has shifted to another system. Gears of War isn't out on Xbox, that doesn't mean Microsoft is fucking over Xbox owners. The fact that you expect Nintendo to still nurture the GameCube as some sort of moral issue just demonstrates how utterly and hopelessly one-sided you are.

  5. Joust is right on this issue.

Your Gears of War analogy doesn't work. Gears was never promised on the Xbox, let alone being shifted to the 360 a couple of months before the system hit.

Yes, it does. The Premium anyway (don't know about Core). One cable that includes component and composite with a switch to choose between the two.

    IDNBTN.

Nintendo has never been about hi-def. I don't expect them to include component cables with the Wii. And they do exist, they're just in very short supply. Which SUCKS, don't get me wrong. Not even in the same league, though, as:

Sony: "The Hi-Def era doesn't start until we say so. Now go buy our $600 system that you can't get hi-def out of because we're saving $5 by only including composite cables. Bitches".

True, but wasn't Halo 3 announced as an Xbox title officially at one point? Regardless, can you name another time when a game shifted development but still came out for both systems? Also, why would everyone hate Nintendo for not releasing Zelda on GameCube if they don't already hate them for not doing HD or bundling component cables with the Wii or charging outrageous prices for VC games? People would have pissed and moaned on message boards for a few days if Cube Zelda was canned, and then they would have bought the Wii version instead.

And I think everyone will agree old Andrew here knows a thing or two about being retarded, so take my word for it.

Unrelated: I played Madden '07 on the Wii the other day and it was fun. I can't decide if I would rather just press buttons, but I definitely didn't dislike it. Catching the ball and sacking other players seemed a little more visceral and fun. Definitely more work though.

You're making the blind assumption that everyone who owns a cube also owns a wii. Seriously your kameo/halo/gears comparisons are just broken. They don't relate to the topic at hand one bit, nobody really expected (or in kameos case cared) that they would make the original x box. However we were strung along for two years that zelda would be a cube game. That is a very different situation.

No, I'm saying that everyone who cares enough to throw fits on message boards for days about a Zelda game will probably buy the next Nintendo system if it's launching with that Zelda game.
