Thread: Official Wii Thread: Part 3

  1. All you need to know about EGM's reviewing capabilities is that they rated Downhill Jam higher than Trauma Center.

Take ~1.5 off each one of those, and they are dead-on. There is no way a game designed for last gen hardware is a 10 on a brand new console. I'm sorry. That's just fucking retarded. I hate it when reviewers give 10s to begin with, but for a launch title it's pure idiocy.

  3. I can't argue with that. Same shit happens with Final Fantasy.

  4. Wii remote Google Earth hack:

  5. As it turns out, I have a bluetooth adapter. Anyone know if pairing your Wiimote with your PC will have adverse effects when you try and use it with your Wii again?

    Why would it?

  7. Yeah, worst case scenario, you'll just have to re-sync it every time.

Zelda is as close to a 10 as any game I've played in recent memory. Who gives a shit if it's a port or a launch title? That's completely irrelevant when grading the worth of a game.

To illustrate the competence of EGM, I give you quotes from a Monkey Ball Banana Blitz review that scored the game a 6:

"But since my motor skills are about as skilled as those of a thumb-sucking primate, it was hard to get a grip on all the monkey s*** going on."

He goes on to say that halfway through story mode the game gets "insanely difficult."

"For me boredom set in quicker than my average time of death: about 30 seconds."

So there you have it: Monkey Ball sucks because the reviewer sucks at videogames. What brilliance.

10 is perfect. A perfect game, in theory, would utilize its hardware to the fullest and be the pinnacle of that system's library. A launch title has never and will never achieve either one of these things. Thus, a launch title, especially one that was ported from a previous, weaker system, should never be rated a 10. It's a fanboy rating with zero objectivity, just like the example of Monkey Ball you gave, which is a hack rating with zero objectivity. The common thread is the zero objectivity, which shouldn't surprise anyone coming from EGM.

  10. Well, when all you play are Nintendo games, Zelda could very well be the best that you've played in recent memory. But Yoshi's dead on.

Monkey Ball should get a 6 for different reasons, mainly having worse control and not being as good as the one that came out in 2001.
