Border Down is a masterpiece, but it goes for $150-$200 now, so you may have missed the "worth picking up" boat. Under Defeat is likewise one of my favorite DC games(review). I think you can still find that one, and its well worth the $60.

Radirgy is good, but it's coming to the GC in the US for cheaps. Trizeal is alright, especially if you like Raiden/Shienryu style shooters, but IMO not worth dropping $60 on. You're better off skipping Chaos Field, but it's cheap on the GC in the US if you're curious.

Ikaruga, Zero Gunner 2, Grev's games come immediately to mind, everything else is average or found for less elsewhere.

I agree Xbox live would be a good venue to showcase some shmups but then I rarely see the praises of Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm sang by more than a few people online. Arcade style gaming seems a hard sell with the casual crowd unless it's a Galga or Pac Man comp. *-neo

ZG2 wasn't really post mortem. And I think even Spodaddy knows about Ikaruga. But yeah, G.rev have been the reason to keep the DC hooked up.

  4. I usually mention ZG2 because it was released out of the blue at a time when media and player attention was shifting from DC (same with say, Cosmic Smash), and Ikaruga just seems a better port on DC.

  5. Between my Mame cabinet and playing Shikigami no Shiro 3 early and in near-HD resolutions, I find myself wanting more and more PC ports of these games than anything else.

Talk about setting yourself up for disappointment.

  6. Guwange called, it wants its gimmick back.

  7. I own and love Ikaruga for GC; I always wanted Zero Gunner 2 but never got around to buying it. Sounds like I'll have to add Border Down and Under Defeat to the list.

I understand that visually it sort of looks similar (projecting something attatched by a tether), but seriously, wtf. That doesn't look like it plays anything like Guwange.

  9. Yeah, I didn't quite get it. I mean, Zero Wing or Tumiki Fighters or something might make sense, but how does Guwange relate?

  10. That looks like fun. Are pre-orders up yet?
