  1. Diego/Josh sucked. The crowd booing was totally warranted- both guys were too scared of each other to do anything. The fight totally didn't live up to the hype. Diego deserved to lose.

Considering how Matt Serra whipped GSP's ass last night and that Diego turned into a complete pussy in his respective match, I guess you never can know 100% what the outcome of any fight will be.

  2. Just watched PRIDE 34. Even with one of their least interesting cards in ages it was still a better show than last night's UFC.

Sokoudjou looks to be the next big thing. He fucking rocked Arona like it was nothing.

Aoki was also excellent, executing more crazy acrobatics to win in record time.

Frye took like 50 unblocked shots to the jaw and wouldn't go down, but I think that says more about Thompson's poor stamina than anything. Their Takayama moment was pretty funny.

  3. So five out of nine of the fights in this weekend's UFC ended in decision (yawn), while eight out of eight (100&#37 of the Pride fights ended in the first round. Holy crap. (Granted, Pride's first round is longer than UFC's--but still!)

Musta been a short card for Pride.

EDIT: Just saw the Don Frye v James Thompson fight. Nice! How did Don not get knocked out? And how did the ref stand there and watch Don get pulverized standing up? Thompson might not have been doing much damage, but Don wasn't defending. Still awesome!

The best fight on either card was a decision (Huerta/Garcia). There's nothing wrong with a decision if the fighters are going all out the whole time. Some of the "exciting" first round finishes on the Pride card were terrible. Butterbean/Zuluzhino? Get these two worthless fat asses off my TV. And Thompson has no technique or cardio and only beat Frye (who is way past his prime, and was never that good to begin with) because he's gigantic. Also Fujita/Monson as a main event? Fuck off, Pride.

I'm the first to admit that Pride has more talented fighters but this was the most talent deprived Pride event of all time. I'd rather see exciting decisions between good fighters than shitty first round finishes from worthless fighters.

  5. Well, I missed the UFC this weekend, but I fully assumed GSP was going to smoke Matt Serra. What the hell happened? Was it close? Did GSP come out Sunday and say "Well, I was fighting injured..." I didn't see this coming.

Everyone expected to Serra to try to take GSP down. Instead, he stood and traded punches...and he fucking won.

  7. Cro Cop, Michael Bisping, and Andrei Arlovski are all on the next UFC PPV.

  8. Dreamcast

Nightmare/Koschek was as bad as Arlovsky/Sylvia III (where they stood around pawing at each other). Koschek was the winner but I didn't see any heart and, considering all the talk these jokers did, neither came through when it counted. Koschek gets bragging rights for a single takedown and then holding on? What a tough-guy. Good for the Toyota Center booing them. My living room boo-ed them throughout the 2nd and 3rd rounds (and especially Koschek's post-fight attitude).

Watching Serra (one of my all-time favorite characters based solely on TUF and his thoughts on GSP/Hughes II - "I know I get to fight the winner, but if you're asking me who I'd rather fight, I guess I'd say that GSP's an awesome fighter and I'd like him to win, but Matt Hughes is a dick.") v. GSP live on PPV was really, really awesome (why didn't I put money down!?!?!), especially after Serra rocked GSP and we all jumped from our seats and screamed for blood. Looking back on it, us jumping up and down, yelling for Matt to finish the fight...wow. Fun stuff.

The lightweight division is looking better and better. Good fights with guys that *want* to rumble, plenty of variety in styles and lots of wars. Speed, technique, endurance...these guys are way more fun to watch than only a handful of heavyweights (CroCop, Nogueira) and light heavies (Tito, Chuck - can't wait for him to fall!).
