Steve Bushemi? Not a bad choice at all, I'd totally buy him as an inbred chicken-fucking backwoods hick.T.C.: That guy with the bug eyes from Desperodo. and Fargo. Bug eyes. that guy would be awesome.

Boo, Hiss.
I can no longer put much faith in HBO.
Not after Carnivale was canceled after one of the most fantastic seasons in the history of television.
"All creatures will DIE, and all things will be BROKEN: That is the law of the SAMURAI."
I am excited. I need to buy the rest of the TPBs before that price goes up on them. They need a Dark Tower series.
Interview with Mark Stephen Johnson
He's the director of Ghost Rider and this is gonna be his next project.
Interview with the director. It's mostly about the Ghost Rider movie, but there is one snippet about Preacher in there:
I'm just trying to finish the pilot for Preacher at the moment. It's for HBO. It's VERY faithful to the comic, nearly exact. I think if it went, it would be one of the most amazing shows ever on television.

Rome is good at best. Hardly one of the best shows of this year, let alone all time. One of the things that really gives it the authentic Roman feel is everyone talking with English accents. So historically accurate. There are like 3 actors in the show that have a goomba dialect. The rest just decided to use the staple english accent every actor learns. Not a bad show though by any means and I watch it, but you're over rating it severely.
Dolemite: I don't like it when big names are cast in series that much. I prefer talented actors who haven't broken out yet so you have no previous empathy with their work. That's usually what HBO does I think.

Considering this show goes above and beyond when it comes to historical research and weaving details into the story, I'm not going to care one bit about how some characters speak with an English accent. This show is dripping with authentic feel, these people were not lazy with respect to historical authenticity.
But the accents, let's get back to the accents. Since we're talking about accuracy here, I'm assuming you'd have preferred the actors talk with a classical Latin accent? What does that sound like exactly? How do you speak English, with a Latin accent? How do you convey an aristocratic Latin inflection, or a common Latin inflection? Maybe you haven't thought this through...
Maybe the more sensible thing to do, since you're producing an English-language show primarily for the US, is to have the actors speak in an accent that at least sounds foreign to your audience, that has aristocratic and common derivatives that you know of, instead of attempting to recreate, in English, an accent you have no frame of reference for.
Ever since I've heard about this, I've been reading Preacher again. It doesn't hold up that well.
