Thread: Finals suck

  1. A study group for a history test? Seems rather redundant. Those were some of the easiest classes I've taken in college, wish I could take them again

[For history] If I wanted to study, I'd go home. If I wanted to goof off, I'd go to a study group.

Study groups helped me realized how stupid my peers truly were. It's no wonder so many people struggled on those exams. For one thing, my teachers (with the exception of a few nutjobs) telegraphed exactly what was going to be on the exam. Studying (or, rather, unnecessarily focusing on) things that won't be on the exam waste your time!

well, this same guy says things like "I don't think history repeats itself. History is stupid. i don't we should have to learn it."

    He's a nice guy....but yeah...

  4. so far only one all-nighter. I hope I don't have to do 78 hours without sleep like last semester, and I don't think I'd have to, since having my own studio is so much more productive.

Tell me about it. I'm an Accounting major and my fiancee's a psych major. It drives me nuts to see half her grade coming from papers when my grades are usually like 10% projects, 90% from 3 tests. Papers are great cuz unless you're a tool you're damn near assured a great score. So she seems to sail smoothly and get A's all the time and I have to bust ass for low B's and shit.

I see English and History majors complaining about shit and it makes me laugh, oh yeah, marketing/management majors too.

It all depends on the school and the department. I regularly write 6-10 page papers with 12-20 sources that take me 15 hours or more to do, and I still end up with random grades between C and A.

yeah, but you still get one thing that other majors don't get:the abaility to get people to check your work before you turn it in.

I'd normally have at least two people check everything I wrote before I was done with it. I sometimes even had the teacher look at it. I've gotten at least a B or higher in every college writing class I've ever taken. I even have a few things being used as teaching examples. You've seen the mistakes I make when no proof reading is done. I think it's pretty safe to say that it really boost quality.

I'm not saying english majors suck or papers are easy or anything, becuase you still gotta put in that time, and papers canb be a huge time dump. Just saying there is a diffirance between something you can get as many people as you want to check and something you have to do on your own, in a hour, and turn in.

  10. Trust me, English majors would rather take a test. Being trained as English teachers means that everything you write is under scrutiny. My professors let nothing pass, and it really helped me. My English majors today know that when they hand in a paper, it has to be quality work, because I'm going to call them out on every little detail. They take twice as long with their English papers as they do with those for other classes.

It's a bitch in the short term, but it does them a world of good in the long run.
