Thread: No More Heroes

  1. Cool. I tried to pick this up today, but I was told it's not out until tomorrow. Between this and Endless Ocean, the ol' Wii is gettin' a workout this week!

  2. winner winner chicken dinner? really? will pick this up tommorow, working too late to go pick it up, but i certainly am looking foreward to it, i loved killer 7's story, but the gameplay always felt like suda resented being forced to add a game to his story, this one looks like its based around strong gameplay.

  3. This game does alot of little things right, more Wii titles could benefit from stealing a few ideas. Changing stance with the position of the Wii-mote is a very cool. *-neo

  4. Yeah, this is really good. Definitely rough in spots -- aforementioned framerate, the bike's collision throughout the world -- which is what detractors will surely focus on. But that's stupid.

Combat has some nice depth: high/low attacks, blocking, throwing, charged attacks, finishing moves, slot machine reel overdrives. Blood spraying everywhere constantly. Really fun.

The overall style and the game's confidence in its execution puts its peers to shame. I read this in a preview, but it couldn't be more true: No More Heroes loves to be a game, and takes every opportunity to remind you you're playing a game. 8 and pre-8-bit touches abound from bleep bloop Pac Man sound effects, to pixelated fonts and spinning bitmap icons that look exactly like the old school treasures in Zack and Wiki.

From the get-go, there's no mistaking this is from the killer7 team, although NMH is much more light-hearted. Travis is an oxymoronic otaku/badass hybrid. His apartment is overflowing with all manner of f-chan goodies. At one point, he stares at a poster of anime chicks, then turns to the camera and drawls, "Moe."

There's a bunch of little touches and surprises I don't want to ruin by talking about them here. If you have a Wii, you should be playing this.

  5. Picked this up tonight, beat the first "level". This just might be the coolest game ever. One of the little touches I especially liked was getting a call on the cell phone and hearing it through the wiimote. This game was made for TNL.

One of the first things I thought. And Compass' remark about Travis himself is apt. He's like the unholy experimental union of Outworld and F-chan made real.

  7. Picked up tonight as well. Gonna check it out in a few. Will post impressions later.

  8. just beat heavy metal, i love the hell out of this game. In many ways this game feels like a kill bill game, the dialogue is great, i love the cel phone thing, the gore is beautifully over the top, and I absolutely love the weird atari 2600 touches, i love suda.

  9. I'm in the same boat of having beaten Heavy Metal and so far really liking the game. The beat them up and then do some kind of Wii control movement to finish them, or do some wrestling move feels really good. I'm not gonna say I love the game till I experience the open world and the side jobs and shit.

  10. I've done a few side jobs and stuff. Not overly impressed. In ways it feels like it tries too hard to be like Killer 7. I hope the storyline picks up, so far it pales in comparison to K7.
The cycle stuff feels straight out of Headhunter, overly tight and sluggish.
As opposed to most, I'm kind of turned off by the combat, it's not bad, just not as fun as I expected.
