You know how people keep bitching that the PSP has no games? That's partially because the PSP is doing terribly in Japan, and quality Japanese support isn't there to make good games. I know a few bozos on here want you to believe that all that matters is Western support, and that Japanese sales numbers are meaningless, but a console is only good when it has quality support from Western AND Japanese developers.
Faith in Sony hardware WILL be shaken by this development. The question isn't if that will happen, but if it will just be a small bump in the road for Sony, or a gigantic pothole.
And, if you go back and read what I've already written in this thread, it points to a growing movement in Japan away from consoles and towards handhelds (well, the DS), which if that continues, you bet your ass we'll feel some of the effects from that over here.
Unfortunately, it will never be able to compare to the high-larity that was the GAF thread on the topic as it unfolded last night.

Because not everyone has a good home theater setup, because many people don't care as much about audiovisual quality as you do, and because portability does matter to a lot of people. I'm not saying you, personally, should care, but it's a bit ridiculous to claim portable gaming is useless because it doesn't meet your exact needs. You seem smart enough to realize not everybody is you and just because you want one thing and don't need another doesn't mean those conditions apply to everyone else as well.

Nope. Japanese devs can stick to worthless platforms. Almost every good game in 2007 is developed by Western devs.
But think of how much nicer of a console it would be with some great Japanese support. And I love the 360, but I have a bit of fear that once the PS3 really gets going, it could end up being the same as Xbox vs. PS2 was - the amount of "only on Xbox" stuff being insignificant when compared to the amount of "only on PS2" stuff, with most of its great games being cross-platform stuff.
Well, we'll have to disagree here. And some of the best PSP games are Western-developed (Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Daxter, Infected, the GTA games, Wipeout Pure).
Lookie there... speaking of the bozos I just mentioned...

Yeah. It'd be perfect if PSP games could be played on the PS3 and DS games on the Wii. The DS is low-res enough to fit both screens on an SDTV.You have a point. Portable games should be playable on TVs 100% of the time. DS should have some deal with Wii that lets you show at least the top screen on an external display.
Hell, I prefer GBA games more on my PC than anything else.

Just because you have your face up Japan's ass doesn't mean that we all have to. I call a spade a spade. America is delivering the goods and Japan is largely cramming 10 year old shit down our throats.
Capcom is supporting the 360. That is all that is needed. We don't need some assholish JRPG full of effeminate males.
