Thread: Dragon Quest 9 Official Thread

Yeah, I've gotten to that part, I was just wondering if it was more advantageous to just keep the guys I have and level/class them the way I want, or if I should keep checking the inn for better characters.

I'm keeping my mage, she's too cute! And lol at enemies looking at her and being mesmerized.

  2. There's a benefit to keeping the guys you start with since vocation skills are kept even after switching classes. I haven't really looked at the other random adventurers but I'd be surprised if they were anywhere near as effective when you first pick them up.

I hear that you can recruit special characters in the endgame. Characters from earlier Dragon Quest games and such. I'm not sure if they have any special skills though.

  3. Damnit, I ordered this online since I had a $20 credit and now I'm still waiting. Doesn't look like it'll be here until tomorrow at the earliest.

  4. it'll probably work out better for you to level your guys and their skills as much as you can. once they change classes some stats will stack onto your new class so you'll end up with a better character.

it is VERY EASY to lose track of time with this game. i like how it's way easier to do alchemy now. no more running in circles waiting for my junk to cook. + it seems like most of the recipes you learn are in sets. i guess so you can have matching sets of weapons and armor.

  5. Really wish this supported Wi-Fi, looks pretty good.

  6. Likewise - if it weren't for the one-two combo of US's expanse and US disinterest in the DQ series, it may have happened...

Although in its defense the game is still highly playable and fun solo.

So long as you have the specific type of brain damage that makes primitive JRPGs seem playable.

  8. I picked up a DSi XL largely for this game, despite the 3DS on the horizon. Don't have the time to play yet, but love the pics and the reviews.
    No gnus is good gnus.

I tried playing DQ4 and found it insufferable. But this one doesn't have random battles and the battle system at least has graphics from some time later than 1987 so I dunno.

So it's up to 1983. That's a step. Actually, wait, no. The battles may look pretty but it's still the same old gameplay. All that running around that happens onscreen doesn't affect the actual combat, which is still straight out of the NES games. So it's still not as advanced as Ultima III. Which is disappointing, because the battle graphics reminded me a bit of Grandia 2, but it unfortunately doesn't take any of that game's combat systems.
