Cyborg Hunter does have a lot of similarities with Metroid even if though it's more linear, so it makes sense to compare them. Metroid was more ambitious but I thought Cyborg's design, atmosphere, and music were well done.

And like kingoffighters said, it was the NTSC 7800 Impossible Mission with the glitch. Other versions were beatable.

I think of that as more of a Zelda precursor. Great game, though. Underappreciated.

  4. RotLA is hard as heck.... making that final parachute jump to get into the cave was pretty awesome.

  5. I don't think I ever beat that last room with the ark and all the Nazis

You are correct. I just wanted to mention Blaster Master, as it's one of the best in the genre, IMO.

  7. Nice thread 'zeed. Little suggestion if youre in the mood: metroid's ancestors. Not just Metroidvania. I'm thinking of Slave Power for the Saturn, and its ilk.

Thanks. I might do that in the future but Yoshi did already make a thread a while back asking about various Metroid-style games. That ended up covering a lot of Metroid ancestors from what I remember.

  10. Wow, those predecessors all came out between 83 and 85, yet just one year later in 86 Metroid had significantly better graphics.
