I think games can have great stories, but it seems like it is only the ones that don't focus on it that pull it off.
This is true. It's actually shitty for anything. However, the 3rd edition rules (NWN, KOTOR, etc.) are much better, and might actually be better suited for videogaming than tabletop gaming. The AD&D ruleset is shitty for videogames and there's absolutely no reason to use it outside of the branding.
Again, I think 3E D&D feels almost like it's designed to be "gamist", like a video game. RQ is an awesome sytem, I agree, but it's a bit too realistic to make a good video game as is. I always thought Morrowind's system was really similar to it. Fallout remains the best ruleset to be used to date in an RPG.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...
Playstation 3...the new Sega Saturn.
I think some people thought this thread's title was "Post some ignorant shit" and not "Controversial videogame statements".
There is a line, and many of you have crossed it.
PS: If you quote/reply to this post I was talking about you. OMG! Self-fulfilling prophecy!
Final Fantasy VIII isn't even a real game
The Ubisoft Prince of Persia remake is a better made game than Ninja Gaiden
Madden games are lost without NFL2K concepts to steal from.
People who bought Playstation 3's at launch and didn't sell them on Ebay have no justification for such actions and should be removed from society before they hurt themselves and those around them.
People who bought Playstation 3's off of Ebay need to be dragged into a ditch and shot.
People who say Halo is an Average FPS at best, also believe sex is an average way to spend your time and that it pales in comparison to eating plain toast.
Gamerscore points desperately need a relevant purpose for existing.

This is true. The statement "Halo is overrated" is usually made by people who haven't played it or have a biased attitude towards Microsoft and hate the Xbox in general for no reason whatsoever.
If any of you Halo haters out there can explain WHY it is overrated, I'm listening.
How exactly are you classifiying this? I wonder because tons of FPS', MMOs, and RPGs that directly mimic older NES/SNES/Pentium I gameplay elements have all greatly evolved and/or just outright trash earlier iterations. A few other series are also at worst as good as the best of earlier versions, like Megaman Zero. In line with that, Metroid Pinball is the best themed videogame pinball of it's ilk that I've ever played (like Sonic Spinball, Devil's Crush, etc.).
You want controversy? I'll give you controversy:
- N64 had the highest retard-aura of any system ever.
- If you didn't like Silent Hill 2, it was over your head.
- In the year 2006, generally speaking Japan still makes better games than the west. Western games often have intellectually interesting ideas that are clumsily implemented. Very few western devs have any sense of tactile gameplay. The games also often lack heart. Japanese games tend to be more aesthetically seamless, better looking and smoother playing.
- That said, Elder Scrolls is the best rpg series on the market.
- Ubi's Prince of Persia was clunky crap with shitty animations and a single repetitive move that could beat almost every enemy in the game.
- FPSes are fine once in a while, but there has never been a more cookie-cutter genre outside manufacturer-licensed racers. The control scheme mandates that they all play almost exactly the same. The FPS genre makes the 90s fighting game craze look wildly inventive by comparison.
- Ridge Racer is the best racing series on the market.
- Gran Turismo is torpid and painul.
- Yes, you can outgrow Mario or anything else. Rated E for Everyone means a panel of soccer moms decided a game wasn't going to destroy anyone's childhood, not that it actually appeals to (or was intended for) everyone.
- The PSP is a succesful system that is selling remarkably well. It is also a better handheld than the DS.
- There is nothing inherently wrong with random turn based battles.
- There is something inherently wrong with playing import rpgs you can't understand a word of.
- Sports games are rated differently because review outlets know people will buy them by the ton regardless, and slamming them for being rehashes will only alienate their audience.
- Grand Theft Auto looks crappy and controls crappy. What exactly is left?
