  1. in a related story kevin federline's new cd, "playing with fire" seems to be suffering from the same supply glut.

Well, if your charging a monthly lease on an HD STB as well as for the service, I would imagine its only fair to include the cables required to use it. Dish Net and DirecTV do.

Back on topic ... LOL sony.

  3. The people who bought PS3s for use as a BD unit have already done so. Sony made the incorrect assumption that everyone (average consumer) would pay for this higher priced technology. They should have just put in SDVD and made the units cheaper instead of including a technology in its infancy. Just trying to force their BD format into households was not a good idea.

For those of you that are not down with HD content via DVD format, do you have HDTVs(20 inch monitors dont count)? HD/BD players?

Have you compared the differences in PQ (Picture Quality)and SQ(Sound Quality) between HDDVD and SDVD? Have you compared individual transfers on disks in both formats?

Do your home theathers have the capacity to handle the different audio formats? If so notice any differences in formats such as TrueHD,DD+, DTSHD/Encore and standard 5.1?

Do you fall in the average consumer category or consider yourselves audio/videophiles?

    Is price the only concern?

As studios familiarize themselves with the new technology the quality of releases will only get better (compression, transfer methods, etc) Kinda like comparing a console launch title to one that is released 4-5 years later, usually a big quality jump. True, some of the current transfers barely have a discernable difference to their upconverted** counterparts, but some are so amazingly crisp and vibrant, and there is no way SDVD can ever touch.

** The average consumer wont even have a quality upconverting player so any comparison there is really moot. For those that would look into a quality upconversion unit at this point, the price difference between an HD player is not that far off. $200 Xbox add-on(mine was 160 with a free movie) or $249-299 Toshiba A1 HD Player w/ 2 free movies compared to $150-230 for a good Oppo Upconverting, or more for the likes of Denon, etc.

BD players are a rip at this point, ill give you that. Also B&M retail prices for disks is a little high, but there are great deals to be had online. (Picked up 15 flicks for an average of 12 bucks each this past month.)

The leap may not be as great as VHS>DVD but there is still a big leap.

The thing that cracks me the fuck up is that people are brainwashed into thinking there's a difference between composite cables and RCA cables. Yeah, you could spend $100 on a component cable set to hook up your HD cable box.... or you could go to Radio Shack and grab 3 RCA cables for $15 total. Same damn thing, but for some reason people just have to buy the ones that say "component" on the box.

Think you can help a brother out? Either that or a DVI->HDMI cable. The lady at Comcast had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her about it.

EDIT: And yeah, if I'm paying $60 a month to have cable, then I should get some fucking cables to go along with it. Cable is overpriced yet once the company has to shill out for some damn cables they get into full-out bitch mode.

Who pays $100 for component cables?

  8. I'll say it again:

My store has hundreds and no one is buying them. Which really, is probably the largest surprise in the history of ever.

Last year, my old store had a ton of 360s right after X-mas. However, they didn't move. Customers got so used to hearing "we're sold out," that they assumed we'd never get any and never bothered to come in and check. This continued until April, when we subsequently sold a fuck-ton.

  10. I was at the mall today and didn't see any PS3s--looked at three stores.
