Gold platting just makes things look nice. It's like the old saying a fence is only as strong as it's weakest link. Since 99.999999% of the cables out there (for video game systems and regular cables) use tin solder, using gold on the connector isn't going to help or change anything in anyway. It's all marketing they claim that the gold allows the electrons to flow easier but again since they're using tin solder to solder the copper wires to the gold connectors, it honestly has no effect.
