    I stand corrected.

  2. Hey, I think it's great you all hate Nintendo so much. Nintendo obviously doesn't cater to your interests, and that's fine--express it, whatever. I just find it tiresome that the exact same complaints are being made every time I load the Wii thread. I hardly ever post here because it's just a combination of the same complaints and same responses.

I don't frequent the Xbox 360 and PS3 threads 'cause I don't own the systems--are they similarly troubled with people complaining that PS3 costs too much and Xbox 360 has too many shooters and surly men with guns? All of the platforms have their shortcomings--Wii very much included--and I'm all for discussing them. But christ, you guys aren't sick of flooding this thread with the exact same lines you've typed a thousand times before?

QFT. Right up until the launch lineup was revealed, I was a lock for the Wii. After that I saw no reason to get one right away, but I figured it was only matter of time between the virtual console and the exclusives. Here we are now, and I still don't see a reason to get one.

Bear in mind I'm also the guy who thinks the Gamecube is one of the best systems ever made.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

  4. Well, I am angry because Nintendo is using their name to pretend this is a legitimate gaming machine. As far as I can see it, it's now a two horse race between Sony and MS. Nintendo is clearly showing that they'd rather cater to people with no taste in games. Great, mom likes Wii Sports. Why is this good for us? I just want them to go away.

And it's the hypocrisy of the Nintendo kids that's just as bad. So why do I like Nintendo threads? Because it's like a train wreck with or without me...you can't help but watch people get excited over shit game after shit game. And the NEWS CHANNEL gets people excited for crying out loud. Did I miss something? There are like 50 news channels already on TV. The problem here is effort being made into things that are good for gaming is going by the wayside in favor of stuff that Mom and Dad might like to compliment Wii Sports. It's sickening. Would more people in the world rather have the NEWS than online play? Yeah, maybe. But that's stupid. And Nintendo went from "WE ARE A GAMING MACHINE" to a machine that not only has no games, but games isn't even the focus. And Nintendo thinks I'm from the future or something because I have 5 speakers and an HD set.

If MS was putting forth the effort Nintendo was, they'd be laughed at forever. They also would have zero chance in hell to sell a Wii Sports system. But because it's NINTENDO, it's OK. And that's garbage. They gave up. They decided to sell a system for peanuts and have people believe it's comparable to the new ones. I guarantee you that 1/3 or more of the userbase is going to be ripshit when they see the 360 and PS3 in 2008 blow the living hell out of the Wii (hell, it's already bad as it is!)

As long as quality games are published for the system, it is.

It's no secret that Nintendo is aiming the Wii at a different audience than you. Nintendo wants to appeal to people that don't typically play video games--get over it. The Wii won't be an online gamer heaven like Xbox 360. Wii won't have the morst technically advanced graphics. The Wii will not be what you're asking it to be. Get over it.

The Wii's going to be a more casual game machine with features that appeal--or at least attempt to appeal--to non-traditional gamers. That's not to say there won't be games that appeal to traditional gamers, Super Mario Galaxy being the most obvious example.

You know this. AFX knows this. Stibbons knows this. Please get over it.

Yeah, maybe--that's Nintendo's bet. Sorry to burst your bubble, but they're not looking out for JoustWilliams (and neither is any company). They're looking out for Nintendo, and since going head-to-head with Sony and Microsoft last generation didn't work out too well for the Cube they're going after a different market.

If Microsoft executed Wii as well (or better) than Nintendo, I'd buy it.

But see, that's where you're wrong. I love Nintendo. I've owned every system they've released (even a Virtua Boy, god I was a foolish child) and I am continually pissed off watching Nintendo do everything wrong. I want to buy a Wii, I really do, but there's nothing there, or upcoming in the future. If VC had online support I'd buy a Wii. But no... a NEWS CHANNEL is much more important then online play. Oh and Weather too. I get annoyed in these threads because you all accept it, and get excited over this stupid crap instead of getting pissed off like you should.

360 threads = mostly good discussion.

    PS3 threads = LOL SONY.

Please don't include me in "you all"--I own a Wii, I'd like to talk about Wii, but I don't think I've ever gotten excited over these Wii channel additions. To me, they're about as appealing as online play. Don't care that they're there, I may toy with them for a while, but I wouldn't miss 'em if they're gone. I'm mostly glad I don't have place-holder channels on my main Wii screen anymore. Except the browser channel still has an ugly beta icon.

That's not too surprising considering the makeup of TNL.

But the difference is online game play is actually a feature that people purchasing the system want, whether you want it or not. Weather and News are not features that people want.

You're going to have to more narrowly define the word "people"--obviously few people on TNL care about weather. But the people that Nintendo is trying to sell to--the people that don't know what online gaming is--are probably more interested in news and weather.

I know you don't care about those people, and you don't need to. As it relates to me, I don't care about them either. But no amount of repeating the same complaints in these threads is going to change Nintendo's focus, at least not with the Wii.
