On a more serious note, can anyone tell my why it is no longer cool to call the American Bison, a "buffalo"?
My cousin was down for the holiday and made a huge stink about Tupelo having a buffalo park, and how stupid the south was for calling them that. They also pointed out in today’s rose parade that they were in fact Bison.
Now, I know my cousin is full of shit about it being a southern thing. No one orders Bison wings or talks about Bison Bill, nor do they go to Bison New York or buy things with bison nickels.
I read the wiki about the American Bison and it has nothing about it. Hopefully one of TNL’s more intelligent posters can give me the 411 on this nomenclature controversy.
No one in the North calls them bison. Your cousin is a fool.
bleh, she's a huge fucking dork is what she is. Went to a big fancy smart kid highschool, and now she is at some big fancy all girls college, traveling the world for some culturawhats it major. I'm sure they pointed it out in one of her classes and now thinks she is so much smarter than the lowly masses.
But I didn't make the thread because of her. I just laughed at her for being a silly ass at the time. However, the fact that they pointed it out on national TV for the rose parade made me wonder if there was some current retard controversy.
So, is there a controversy, or is this just another one of those things that stuffy jackasses like to be jackasses about? Like the koala bear, not really being a bear.
I remember in Colorado someone telling me a story about some hicks that came to CO to go hunting asked someone "at what elevation do deer become elk?"
lol
"Buffaloes" are technically African/Asian Bison. The ones in America are just plain ol' Bisons.
I still call 'em Buffaloes, though.
