Okay I decided to stick with my PC. I really don't do anything that needs the extra power and it works fine. In the end, waste not want not is still an adage I try to live by.
I did buy a SSD though.
Get a 1440p IPS monitor if you want an impressive screen to hold you over.
That annual itch to get an iPad has hit, and this time I think it's gonna win out. I really shouldn't; I'm upgrading from my ancient iPhone 4 to a 5S next month, so this really is a redundant waste of cash. Between my laptop and phone, I've never really seen the need for a tablet.
I think it's all these trans-oceanic flights in recent years that have gone a long way to sell me on the convenience factor--kinda like when I mostly converted from physical books to Kindle a couple years ago, despite my love for real books.
So yeah, I've held out against getting an iPad for years, but I don't think I can resist for much longer.

I thought about that, as well. The iPad Air launched in November, and I'm not sure where that demarcation is at which you're better off waiting. 4 months? 6?
Another factor to consider is that I'm leaving for Korea at the end of the month (again) and I'll be there for a couple years (again). Apple products don't always launch right away deep in Samsung country. For example, new iPhone models in Korea tend to lag a few months behind US release. So there's no guarantee I won't be in the same boat when the next round hits.

Buy my iPad.
They've just pushed the iPad 4 as their low-end model, it used the be the iPad 2. You might see the mini drop price or get an older refurbished model at a lower price if you keep your eye open.
Or get the new one and don't worry about cost.
