Did you READ my question? My question was if I had to create the Boot Camp partition with the machine basically being new, or if it could be done at any time. Regular partitioning is something you CAN'T just do at any time, unless you've got an empty drive, or are willing to risk things going all to hell on a non-empty drive (if you're even allowed to do it at that point anyhow).

If I was going to have to erase the drive and re-install Mac OSX after a hard drive erase and partition for Boot Camp's sake, obviously I'd want to know and do that before getting very far with my new machine.

Not something one would obviously know having not done it before, and a legit question, so quit being a dick just for the sake of being one.

  2. BOLD VS BOLD??!?!?! :O

Shidoshi, i just installed bootcamp beta and it partitioned the way i wanted to through booting through the osx DVD when i bought my macbook pro, no need to clear youre drive whatsoever

edit: i ended up giving vista 20gb, OSX 60gb, and the rest as a FAT32 partition so both operating systems could share files easily. Earlier in this thread however something was posted so you could now on OSX read and write NTSF no prob.

You really can partition whenever you want to.

You would know if you went to http://www.apple.com/bootcamp and read the third paragraph.

  5. If it's that much of a concern, and it's going to have to be partitioned at some point anyway...

  6. I'm without my MBP now until sometime next week while Apple fixes a dead fan and something that I imagine is grounding the battery, causing each one to only last about 75 cycles. I hate not having that thing.

  7. I had to replace my left fan recently because it was dying. Unfortunately I didn't get Apple Care (in hindsight a baaad call) and Apple wanted almost $600 to fix the fucking thing.

So I just replaced it myself which wasn't too bad, it cost me less than $100 including shipping the fan from the US.

  8. Yeah, I usually go for the warranty on anything over $100. Repairing most electronics is crap I don't want to go through.

  9. since i got leopard this thing always has the damn fan at LOUD, and EXTREME SPEEED, its getting tiring to hear and feel the extreme heat while doing work.

  10. Get smcFanControl.

It's always gonna be hot though, average running heat is between 60 and 70 C
