I'm a sucker for that device in moderation. Martin uses it a lot, and tends to do so in situations where someone low is hearing about machinations they couldn't possibly understand (best example being Arya seeing and not recognizing Roose Bolton's communications w/Tywin about the Red Wedding).

I love the idea, I just want to see them conspiring. I really dislike the "OH GUESS WHAT WE WERE PLAYING YOU!" out of nowhere when it comes to POV characters.

Oddly, I'm okay with non-POVs springing these kinds of surprises.
