Thread: Game of Thrones

  1. Think of it as something like Final Fantasy Tactics first half or Tactics Ogre first half. There might be some supernatural stuff mixed in but the real meat of the story is the intrigue going on with all the royals. The supernatural stuff is more of a background type thing, it exists and there's a threat of something big coming in the future but the focus is on the big things going on with the king succession.

  2. Make no mistake, I totally love this show and it is perfect so far, but when you keep hearing about Giants you are excited to maybe see some Giants.

    They could never show them and it'll still be basically the best show ever and it's not as if I want them over what I'm seeing now, but it's still exciting.

  3. This is a good show. But not even the best show on TV right now, let alone ever.

    I was sad to see the dance instructor get sliced and diced. I like his character - very interesting. They really cast Joffery with the right actor. He looks like such an inbred shit muncher.

    I think he's a cool character as well. I like to think he might've cleared that encounter. He looked like he meant it when he said "Not today," even with that busted practice sword.

    Yeah seriously, he's cast really well. King Robert, Joffrey, Arya Stark, Khal Drogo, Viserys, Jorah Mormont.. they all seem the part to me. I was a bit disappointed in the Hound and the Mountain, those characters feel like they were really toned down for the screen somehow.

    I still find it a bit hard to adjust to the age of the Stark family in the show. It has a pretty big impact on the story. As written you have this 15 year old boy grappling with command of all the North... he's just a little kid, and he has to tame these grizzled veterans like Greatjon Umber, win their respect and lead them into war -- he's in way, way over his head but mans up something fierce. It's just not there when you call him 17-20 years old to begin with. Same goes for Jon Snow. He's supposed to be what, 13? I feel like a lot gets lost by arbitrarily tacking five years onto his character.

    I'm really loving this show, though! It's certainly the only thing that I look forward to watching on TV.

    When Anya runs off, you hear a metal sword fall to the ground, not the wooden one. I wouldn't count him out quite yet.

  6. It's definitely meant to be ambiguous whether Syrio is dead or not. That scene is fuck awesome in the book, and was still pretty awesome in the show. It was a lot more gory in the books - using the wooden sword to kneecap dudes and poke out eyeballs and shit. The Lannister guardmen have weak spots in their armor that he exploits, but the Kingsguard guy has armor covering basically everything you so don't know how he could possibly beat him (the wooden sword doesn't get broken in the book).

    Of course he could always.. you know, pick up one of the ten swords on the ground around him.

    Also, I agree with Steve. This show ranks somewhere above Boardwalk Empire, and either right below Mad Men or right above it - depending on what mood I'm in.

    The fourth sliced his stick in two, splintering the wood and shearing through the lead core."

  8. We hear screaming and the big knight dude appears in the throne room at the end during Sansa's big grovelling scene. I would assume he was killed. But because we didn't see it the golden rule of film says he didn't. Maybe he escaped. I hope so. He was epic.
